Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Exploring the Potential of Fique Fiber as a Natural Composite Material: A Comprehensive Characterization Study

open access: yesPolymers, 2023
Many studies available in the literature focus mainly on the mechanical characterization of fiber, leaving out other physicochemical and thermogravimetric analyses that allow for establishing its potential as an engineering material.

Characterization of Nanoporous Materials

Annual Review of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, 2021
Detailed analysis of textural properties, e.g., pore size and connectivity, of nanoporous materials is essential to identify correlations of these properties with the performance of gas storage, separation, and catalysis processes. The advances in developing nanoporous materials with uniform, tailor-made pore structures, including the introduction of ...

Characterization of bioacceptable carbon materials

Clinical Materials, 1990
Bioacceptable carbon films deposited with a new low temperature technique have been investigated using Raman and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Our results reveal a substantial similarity between the low temperature deposited film and the well-known bioacceptable low temperature isotropic (LTI) pyrocarbon.

Characterization of Materials II

1992
The characterization of materials is an important step to be taken before utilizing the materials for any purpose. Depending on the purpose, one can subject the material to mechanical, thermal, chemical, optical, electrical, and other characterizations to make sure that the material under consideration can function without failure for the life of the ...

Materials Characterization

1986
Volume 10 addresses materials characterization from an engineering perspective, describing the capabilities and limitations of various analytical tools and what they reveal about the composition, structure, and state of engineering materials. It examines optical metallography, electron microscopy, diffraction, chromatography, spectroscopy, and chemical

Interactive characterization of granulated materials

Computers & Geosciences, 2009
This paper illustrates an interactive approach to digital characterization of granulated materials, based on mathematical morphology, digital topology and non-linear differential equations. The digital characterization is achieved using a three-step sequential process, namely: denoising, interactive segmentation and quantification, with emphasis in the

Goniofluorometer for characterization of fluorescent materials

Applied Optics, 2008
A goniofluorometer has been built that is capable of measuring in various viewing angles ranging from 10 degrees to 90 degrees . The incident angle can be varied from 0 degrees to 8 degrees . The goniofluorometer can measure bispectral luminescent radiance factors in the wavelength range of 250-800 nm.
