A Lip Repositioning Technique Using Polyester Threads for Gummy Smile Treatment

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
A new technique is proposed in this study to correct the gummy smile (GS) with myotomy, combining lip repositioning with the insertion of polyester threads at the surgical site to act as a physical barrier and control relapse. 11 patients were clinically assessed (30.2 ± 7.43 years old, 90.9% females and 9.10% males).

The Role of Marine Organic Extract in Bone Regeneration: A Pilot Study

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Novel biomaterials capable of accelerating the healing process of skeletal tissues are urgently needed in dentistry. The present in vivo study assessed the osteoconductive and osteoinductive properties of experimental biphasic bioceramics (HA‐TCP) modified or not by a nacre extract (marine organic extract, MOE) in a sheep model.

Low‐level laser and adipose‐derived stem cells altered remodelling genes expression and improved collagen reorganization during tendon repair

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 52, Issue 3, May 2019., 2019
Abstract Objectives The cellular therapy using adipose‐derived mesenchymal stem cells (ASCs) aims to improve tendon healing, considering that repaired tendons often result in a less resistant tissue. Our objective was to evaluate the effects of the ASCs combination with a low‐level laser (LLL), an effective photobiostimulation for the healing processes.

Adrenal‐Derived Hormones Differentially Modulate Intestinal Immunity in Experimental Colitis

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, Volume 2016, Issue 1, 2016., 2016
The adrenal glands are able to modulate immune responses through neuroimmunoendocrine interactions and cortisol secretion that could suppress exacerbated inflammation such as in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Therefore, here we evaluated the role of these glands in experimental colitis induced by 3% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) in C57BL/6 mice ...

Immunohistochemical Expression of Collagens in the Skin of Horses Treated with Leukocyte‐Poor Platelet‐Rich Plasma

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
This study evaluated the immunohistochemical expression of type I (COL I) and III (COL III) collagens during the healing process of skin treated with leukocyte‐poor platelet‐rich plasma (LP‐PRP). Seven healthy gelding crossbred horses aged 16 to 17 years were used.
