Polyurethane damping material

Journal of Elastomers & Plastics, 2014
The mechanical and damping properties of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) prepared by polyether–aromatic polyester polyols were studied. Dynamic viscoelastic properties ( E′ and tan δ) were mainly investigated using a dynamical mechanical analysis.

Sound damping materials

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1985
A sound damping material is disclosed, which is a composite structural body comprising honeycomb or corrugated core, plain sheet and pressure sensitive adhesive layer, a height direction of the honeycomb or corrugated core being perpendicular to a surface of a vibrating body.

Vibration damping materials and soundproofing structures using such damping materials

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1992
A vibration damper includes two materials, each being formed of a metal sheet having a rubber- or synthetic resin-base viscoelastic polymeric layer or layers formed on one or both sides, which are arranged in opposition to each other through said viscoelastic layers and bonded together with the use of a hot-melt-adhesive synthetic resin layer having a ...

Measurement of damping properties of damping material

SPIE Proceedings, 2010
An oblate solid cylinder damping material specimen is used to construct three damping systems with three different additional masses. The specimen is excited by an electromagnetic shaker in the vertical direction, and the specimen excites the additional mass vibrating.

Damping of composite materials

Polymer Composites, 1984
AbstractA rule of mixture for the prediction of the loss factor of hybrid laminates of graphite/epoxy and kevlar/epoxy composite materials is developed. The theoretical values agree reasonably with the experimental values for ten samples. An optimal laminate having the modulus of aluminium and twice the loss factor of graphite/epoxy laminates is ...

Body panel with vibration damping material, vibration damping material coater, and damping material application method

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2008
A vibration damping material coater, wherein, when the wrist part (14) of a coating robot having a plurality of coating nozzles (15a, 15b) is operated in a specified operation pattern and viscous vibration damping material and binder with different properties are simultaneously injected from the plurality of coating nozzles, the vibration damping ...

Damping Mechanisms in High Damping Materials

Key Engineering Materials, 2006
Different viewpoints at high damping materials - from engineering needs to physical mechanisms are discussed. It is suggested that only several mechanisms in metallic materials can lead to high intrinsic damping capacity while some other “peak-like” effects are not sufficient to make high damping materials.

Material Damping

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1969
The phenomenon of mechanical hysteresis is discussed briefly in this paper with reference to common structural materials. The class of materials known as viscoelastic materials is then introduced and briefly discussed in terms of phenomenological behavior.

Developing Metallic Damping Materials

Metallurgist, 2015
Studies are made of the acoustic properties of metals obtained from steels 08kp, 25, and 50 and aluminum alloy AL2. New metals characterized by reduced sound radiation have been developed, and the effect of heat treatment on this property is evaluated.

Cryo Magnetic Damping: Material Characterization and Damping Demonstration

48th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2007
The aim of this research is to develop analytical techniques that are supported by experimental data to predict the behavior of a passive magnetic damper in a cryogenic environment. The applications are far reaching--projects with high precision pointing requirements, such as JWST, operate in harsh environments where traditional damping techniques may ...
