Sankey-Based Material Flow Analysis of Residual Biomass for Combustion: A Case Study of Latvia

open access: yesEnvironmental and Climate Technologies
Europe has increasingly utilised biomass as a renewable alternative to fossil fuels for combustion and heat production to meet climate targets. This shift has made the energy sector heavily dependent on primary wood biomass. However, recently implemented

A Threefold Assessment of the Romanian Economy’s Eco-efficiency [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of European Affairs, 2012
The present paper assesses the ecological sustainability of the Romanian economy from three different angles. The first two applications use the economy’s energy and material consumption as proxy for its overall environmental impact. The third assessment

Modular approach to material flow analysis

open access: yes, 2021
In this paper, we refer to a socio-technical system as a model for the organisation of production and consumption in a given territory. This work is part of the STEEP team's "Socio-technical alternatives" research axis, which aims to provide tools and methodologies that allow stakeholders in a territory (public authorities, associations, companies ...

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Therapeutic strategies for MMAE‐resistant bladder cancer through DPP4 inhibition

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We established monomethyl auristatin E (MMAE)‐resistant bladder cancer (BC) cell lines by exposure to progressively increasing concentrations of MMAE in vitro. RNA sequencing showed DPP4 expression was increased in MMAE‐resistant BC cells. Both si‐DPP4 and the DPP4 inhibitor sitagliptin suppressed the viability of MMAE‐resistant BC cells.

Revealing the material, cost, and monetary value flows of rare earth elements in China

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Rare earth elements (REEs) are vital to global social and economic development. As the largest supplier of REEs worldwide, China’s previous unsustainable and extensive mining practices have led to a decline in ore quality and availability.
