Seismic vulnerability of a non-linear building with distributed multiple tuned vibration absorbers
Structure and Infrastructure Engineering, 2019Multimode vibration control of a non-linear building with distributed multiple tuned vibration absorbers (d-MTVAs) is studied to assess its seismic vulnerability. A multi-story building is exposed to earthquakes such that the beams and columns are likely

Non-linear optical materials and applications
Materials Science Reports, 1993Abstract A review is given of the present status of the non-linear optical materials and devices, and their applications for optical signal processing and computing. The primary motivation behind this review is to introduce the different areas involved, paying special attention to their interfaces.

1971
A number of devices used in the electronics industry have, over the years, become classified as non-linear. These include such components as the thermistor (a resistor that is non-linear with respect to temperature and current), and the varistor (a non-linear resistor with respect to voltage). These devices, the materials from which they are fabricated

The Mechanics of Non-Linear Materials with Memory
Archive for Rational Mechanics and Analysis, 1959The mechanics of non-linear materials with memory has been discussed in previous papers [1, 2] and an earlier report [3]*. In these papers, it was assumed that, in a fixed coordinate system, the stress at a point of the material at any instant of time is determined by the deformation gradients at that instant and at previous instants.

Semiconductor and non-linear optical materials
Semiconductor Science and Technology, 1991Properties of well known (e.g. III-V) and less well known (e.g. II-IV-V2) semiconductors are reviewed, with emphasis on the optical nonlinearity of the lesser known materials. Diamond-derived structures are discussed. Possible techniques for assessing the usefulness of new materials, and for crystal growth are also discussed.

Notch-sensitivity of non-linear materials
Journal of Materials Science, 1991The relationships between breaking stress, σB, and crack length, a, and between breaking strain, eB, and a have been calculated for materials whose stress-strain behaviour is approximated by σ=ke n. The results take the form σB∝ (a) −m and eB∝ (a) −p, where m=n/(n+1) and p=1/(n+1). For n=1 (the linear case), m=p=1/2.

Non-linear optics in artificial Kerr materials
Materials Science and Engineering: B, 1991Abstract Non-resonant optical third-order non-linearity can be observed in liquid suspensions of dielectric microparticles as a result of diffusive rearrangements of the particle distribution function. Wave-combination experiments, such as non-degenerate two-wave mixing and degenerate four-wave mixing, show the presence of two different kinds of ...
