Ultrasonic materials characterization

NDT International, 1987
Abstract The National NDT Centre at Harwell has been developing methods for the characterization of materials using ultrasonics. This paper reviews the progress made in applying ultrasonic attenuation measurements to the determination of such quantities as grain size and dislocation content.

Characterization of Materials

1979
The physical characterization or properties required of a material for medical applications vary widely according to the particular application. Moreover, due to our imperfect understanding of tissue-material interactions, it is difficult if not impossible to translate the values of physicochemical properties of materials intoin vivoperformances ...

Balloon material characterization

7th Aerodynamic Decelerator and Balloon Technology Conference, 1981
Experimental data are reviewed to study the state of stress and strain in a typical balloon fabricated from thin polyethylene film. Relaxation tests are conducted over a temperature range of -60 C to 140 C for a constant strain of 1%, and loads measured with the load cell are converted to values of the relaxation modulus.

Magnetocaloric Characterization of Materials

2021
Magnetocaloric characterization is most typically considered for materials that will be applied in thermomagnetic energy conversion devices, but it can also be of relevance for any material that exhibits a thermomagnetic phase transition. This chapter overviews the most usual methods for magnetocaloric characterization, including direct and indirect ...

Materials Characterization

1995
Publisher Summary Materials characterization is a crucial issue in the field of magneto-optical (MO) data storage. MO data storage involves thermomagnetic writing of small domains in a thin magnetic film embedded in a multilayered disk structure and the readout of these domains via the detection of the polar Kerr rotation of a beam of monochromatic ...

Nanotribology, Nanomechanics and Materials Characterization

2007
Nanotribology and nanomechanics studies are needed to develop a fundamental understanding of interfacial phenomena on a small scale, and to study interfacial phenomena in micro/nanoelectromechanical systems (MEMS /NEMS ), magnetic storage devices, and many other applications. Friction and wear of lightly loaded micro/nanocomponents are highly dependent

Characterizing Material Response

2021
All materials depending upon their type and the microstructure respond differently under external loading conditions. A precise and accurate determination of the resultant material properties, therefore, is the first important step in the material selection process and their subsequent efficient utilization in construction projects.

Characterization of VLSI materials

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1983
The interest in very large scale integrated circuits and very high speed integrated circuits has placed increasing demands on the quality of the available semiconductor materials. It has also demanded improvements in the characterization techniques in both spatial resolution and detection limits.
