Synthesis and characterization of BaO nanorods using azadirachta indica (neem) leaf extract for environmental applications

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Chemical Engineering
Barium oxide nanorods were synthesized using the coprecipitation method in the presence of Azadirachta indica (neem) leaf extract as a stabilizing and protective agent.

Fabrication of mesoscale polymeric templates for three-dimensional disordered photonic materials

open access: yes, 2012
We report on the mesoscale fabrication and characterization of polymeric templates for isotropic photonic materials derived from hyper- uniform point patterns using direct laser writing in a polymer photoresist.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

High temperature materials characterization [PDF]

open access: yes
A lab facility for measuring elastic moduli up to 1700 C was constructed and delivered. It was shown that the ultrasonic method can be used to determine elastic constants of materials from room temperature to their melting points.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Evaluation of the Wind Potential and Optimal Design of a Wind Farm in The Arzew Industrial Zone in Western Algeria

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2020
This work presents an assessment of the wind potential and a design methodology for a 10 MW wind farm in the Arzew industrial region, located in northwest Algeria, to improve the quality of service of the electricity grid and increase Algeria's ...

Ultrasonic nondestructive materials characterization [PDF]

open access: yes
A brief review of ultrasonic wave propagation in solid materials is presented with consideration of the altered behavior in anisotropic and nonlinear elastic materials in comparison with isotropic and linear elastic materials.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Highly Non-Linear Optical (NLO) organic crystals [PDF]

open access: yes
This research project involves the synthesis and characterization of organic materials having powerful nonlinear optical (NLO) properties and the growth of highly ordered crystals and monomolecular films of these materials.

An alternative 3D model for damage induced anisotropy and unilateral effect in microcracked materials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A three-dimensional model of damage by microcrack growth is proposed to account for the mechanical behavior of quasi brittle materials (especially for concrete and rocks). The emphasis is put on the induced anisotropy and on the elastic moduli dependence
