Nonlinear Ultrasonic Techniques for Material Characterization

2018
This chapter considers both the theoretical aspects of the nonlinear ultrasonic phenomena in elastic solids and their applications to materials characterization; it has been demonstrated that nonlinear ultrasound (NLU) measurements can provide quantitative inputs to determine the material state and measure damage in engineering components.

MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES | χ(3)

2005
In some materials, an effective x3 or an effective n2 can be defined as well. For instance, in a secondorder nonlinear material, an effective x3 is established through cascading of x2s, and in the presence of phase mismatch between the fundamental and the second harmonic.

Improved resonance technique for materials characterization

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1983
An improved resonance apparatus for materials characterization is described. The apparatus accurately determines the propagation constants of an extensional acoustic wave by exciting a bar of material at one end with a noise source, while the other end is allowed to move freely.

Characterization of Materials by Thermoanalytical Techniques

MRS Bulletin, 1988
The generally accepted definition for thermal analysis is that it covers “a group of techniques in which a physical property for a substance and/or its reaction product(s) is measured as a function of temperature while the substance is subjected to a controlled temperature program.” From this broad scope, it is evident that at some point in their ...

Characterization Techniques Applied for Electrode Materials

Electrode materials are playing a crucial role as the heart of the device for all high-end advanced energy storage devices, such as supercapacitors and batteries. Electrode materials characterization, including a complete understanding of their physical, chemical and electrochemical properties, and optimizations are essential.
