Progress in materials synthesis

open access: yesMetal Powder Report, 1996
This paper reviews recent results on the synthesis of novel materials at the Pulvermetallurgisches Laboratorium (PML). The preparation of nano-sized ceramic powders as well as new powder technological approaches in the field of colloidal processing are discussed. Additionally, liquid-phase sintering of beta aluminas and of silicon carbide is described.

Synthesis and characterization of spherical amorphous alumo-silicate nanoparticles using RF thermal plasma method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The RF thermal plasma synthesis route was used for the preparation of alumo-silicate spherical particles. Homogeneous solid mixtures of raw materials (Al2O3, SiO2 and KOH) were used as precursors.

Polythiophene and oligothiophene systems modified by TTF electroactive units for organic electronics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim of this review is to give an update on current progress in the synthesis, properties and applications of thiophene-based conjugated systems bearing tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) units. We focus mostly on the synthesis of poly- and oligothiophenes with

The interplay between thermodynamics and kinetics in the solid-state synthesis of layered oxides. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In the synthesis of inorganic materials, reactions often yield non-equilibrium kinetic byproducts instead of the thermodynamic equilibrium phase. Understanding the competition between thermodynamics and kinetics is a fundamental step towards the rational

Hypergolic Materials Synthesis through Reaction of Fuming Nitric Acid with Certain Cyclopentadienyl Compounds

open access: yesC, 2020
Recently we have shown the importance of hypergolic reactions in carbon materials synthesis. However, hypergolic reactions could be certainly expanded beyond carbon synthesis, offering a general preparative pathway towards a larger variety of materials ...

Self-Assembly in Materials Synthesis [PDF]

open access: yesMRS Bulletin, 2005
AbstractThe synthesis of materials via self-assembly typically involves the spontaneous and reversible organization of small building blocks for the purpose of creating conglomerate structures over larger length scales. This introductory article describes self-assembly processes on several length scales, from subnanometer up to millimeter scales, and ...

Contribution of boundary non-stoichiometry to the lower-temperature plasticity in high-pressure sintered boron carbide

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
The improvement of non-oxide ceramic plasticity while maintaining the high-temperature strength is a great challenge through the classical strategy, which generally includes decreasing grain size to several nanometers or adding ductile binder phase. Here,
