Detecting When One Probe Vector is Enough for Preconditioned Log‐Determinant Approximation

open access: yesNumerical Linear Algebra with Applications, Volume 33, Issue 4, August 2026.
ABSTRACT We present randomized algorithms for estimating the log‐determinant of regularized symmetric positive semi‐definite matrices. The algorithms access the matrix only through matrix vector products, and are based on the introduction of a preconditioner and stochastic trace estimator.

Desynchronizing effects of lightning strike disturbances on cyclic forest dynamics in mangrove plantations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Plantations released from management are vulnerable to transient oscillations until cohort dynamics are broken and the vertical and horizontal structures of the plantation are transformed to those of more natural forests.

Assessing differences among elasmobranch nurseries to aid conservation based on a genomics framework

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Elasmobranch nurseries often differ in environmental conditions, demographics, and use patterns. These differences affect the distribution of genetic variation among nurseries. However, conservation and management strategies often fail to account for such differences because they are difficult to characterize.

Uplink and Downlink Performance Bounds for Full Duplex Cellular Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
With Full Duplex (FD), wireless terminal is capable of transmitting and receiving data simultaneously in the same frequency resources, however, it introduces self interference and co-channel interference.

Additive Gaussian Process Regression for Predictive Design of High‐Performance, Printable Silicones

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 13, 8 July 2026.
A chemistry‐aware design framework for tuning printable polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) for vat photopolymerization (VPP) is developed using additive Gaussian process (GP) modeling. Polymer network mechanics informs variable groupings, feasible formulation constraints, and interaction variables.

AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 39, 13 July 2026.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Environmental DNA metabarcoding reveals biodiversity recovery in tropical forest restoration across multiple landscapes

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Forest ecosystems have been degraded globally and restoration efforts aim to reverse loss of biodiversity and ecosystem function decline including carbon storage from the atmosphere. Assessments of restoration success predominantly emphasize increasing carbon stocks rather than species recovery.

Stoichiometric mismatches between Australian showy mistletoes and their hosts: You are what you assimilate

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract Ecological stoichiometry emphasizes that mismatches between the elemental composition of organisms and their resources can shape ecological interactions, evolutionary trajectories, and nutrient cycling. For hemiparasitic plants such as mistletoes, which draw water and nutrients from hosts while maintaining their own photosynthesis, such ...

Hierarchical Bayesian Modeling of Total Column Ozone: Unraveling Equatorial Variability Over Ethiopia Using Satellite Data and Multisource Covariates

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding the spatiotemporal dynamics of total column ozone (TCO) is critical for monitoring ultraviolet (UV) exposure and ozone trends, particularly in equatorial regions where variability remains underexplored. This study investigates monthly TCO over Ethiopia (2012–2022) using a Bayesian hierarchical model implemented via Integrated ...
