Statistical framework for evaluation of climate model simulations by use of climate proxy data from the last millennium – Part 3: Practical considerations, relaxed assumptions, and using tree-ring data to address the amplitude of solar forcing [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past, 2015
A statistical framework for evaluation of climate model simulations by comparison with climate observations from instrumental and proxy data (part 1 in this series) is improved by the relaxation of two assumptions.

Unveiling Mechanisms of SEI Formation and Sodium Loss in Sodium Batteries via Interface Reactor Sampling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An “Interface Reactor” strategy boosts simulation stability by 2–3 orders of magnitude, enabling stable 100 ns molecular dynamics of electrode‐electrolyte interfaces. Distinct SEI formation mechanisms are revealed: mixed co‐formation in carbonates versus surface‐energy‐controlled NaF crystallization in ethers. Metadynamics simulations further elucidate

6. Erasmus and Geography

open access: yesJournal of Interdisciplinary History of Ideas, 2014
Koyré argued that Renaissance humanistic scholarship had been the enemy of science: humanists preferred pouring over ancient texts much more than exploring nature and promoting knowledge associated with it—namely science.

Atmospheric Water Harvesting Through Polymer Hydrogel Sorbents: Materials Chemistry, Design Strategies, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Polymer‐based hydrogels have emerged as promising materials for atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) due to their high water affinity, tunable network structure, and excellent moisture adsorption‐desorption performance. Functional hydrogel systems enable efficient water capture and controlled release under low‐energy conditions, offering a sustainable ...

Palaeoproteomic Deconvolution of Physical and Genetic Collagen Mixtures

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ClassiCOL_v2 uses a novel “peptide patching” framework that treats any collagen sample as a patchwork of peptide sequences derived from phylogenetically related species. This allows the algorithm to simultaneously resolve two previously intractable problems: multi‐species samples and/or database deficiencies.

Application of the Point-Descriptor-Precedence representation for micro-scale traffic analysis at a non-signalized T-junction

open access: yesGeo-spatial Information Science, 2023
An intersection of two or more roads poses a risk for potential conflicts among vehicles. Often the reasons triggering such conflicts are not clear, as they might be too subtle for the human eye.

Anode‐Free Sodium Metal Batteries: From Materials Design to System‐Level Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Anode‐free sodium metal batteries hold no sodium reserve, so every inefficiency becomes permanent loss. Resolving the inventory into reversible, dead, and chemically bound fractions exposes what Coulombic efficiency hides. Practical 500‐cycle operation requires above 99.95%, a threshold few systems meet under lean electrolyte and high areal capacity ...

Assessing vegetation structure and ANPP dynamics in a grassland–shrubland Chihuahuan ecotone using NDVI–rainfall relationships [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2015
Climate change and the widespread alteration of natural habitats are major drivers of vegetation change in drylands. In the Chihuahuan Desert, large areas of grasslands dominated by perennial grass species have transitioned over the last 150 years to ...

Transport–Reaction–Signal Coupling in Lateral Flow Assays for Next‐Generation Point‐of‐Care Diagnostics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lateral flow assays are evolving into interdisciplinary, system‐level sensing platforms. Recent innovations are deconstructed through coupled phases of mass transfer, reaction, and signal transduction, revealing interdependence across porous materials, interfacial chemistry, nanolabels, readout devices, and data‐enabled analysis.
