Mathematical modeling of infectious disease dynamics

open access: yesVirulence, 2013
Over the last years, an intensive worldwide effort is speeding up the developments in the establishment of a global surveillance network for combating pandemics of emergent and re-emergent infectious diseases.

Application range of a mathematical model computing distributions of random impulse excitations

open access: yesArchive of Mechanical Engineering
The paper describes the model of an oscillator with damping, whose vibrations are forced by a random series of impulses. The mathematical model of the inverse problem used to calculate the distributions can only be applied when the values of the random impulses are known.

Mathematical modelling of swirling flow in hydraulic turbines for the full operating range

open access: yesApplied Mathematical Modelling, 2011
We introduce and validate a novel mathematical model for computing the radial profiles of both axial and circumferential velocity components, respectively, of the swirling flow exiting the runner of hydraulic turbines within the full operating range. We assume an incompressible, inviscid, axisymmetrical, and steady swirling flow, with vanishing radial ...

Industrial application of heat- and mass balance model for fluid-bed granulation for technology transfer and design space exploration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pharmaceutics: X, 2019
This work demonstrates the application of state-of-the-art modeling techniques in pharmaceutical manufacturing for fluid bed granulation at varying scales to successfully predict process conditions and ultimately replace experiments during a technology ...

Mathematical Modeling of Microbial Community Dynamics: A Methodological Review

open access: yes, 2014
Microorganisms in nature form diverse communities that dynamically change in structure and function in response to environmental variations. As a complex adaptive system, microbial communities show higher-order properties that are not present in ...

Design of a Measurement System for Six-Degree-of-Freedom Geometric Errors of a Linear Guide of a Machine Tool

open access: yesSensors, 2018
This paper proposes a system utilizing a Renishaw XL80 positioning error measuring interferometer and sensitivity analysis design to measure six-degree-of-freedom (6 DOF) geometric errors of a machine tool’s linear guide.

Reference Ranges for Hemoglobin and Hematocrit Levels in Neonates as a Function of Gestational Age (22–42 Weeks) and Postnatal Age (0–29 Days): Mathematical Modeling

open access: yesChildren, 2019
Hematological values of neonates need to be interpreted taking into account the fact that the reference ranges depend on the age of the neonate. We aimed to derive two general mathematical models for reference ranges for hemoglobin concentration (cHb ...

Evaluation of the effect of geometrical parameters on stope probability of failure in the open stoping method using numerical modeling

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mining Science and Technology, 2019
Stress-induced failure is among the most common causes of instability in Canadian deep underground mines. Open stoping is the most widely practiced underground excavation method in these mines, and creates large stopes which are subjected to stress ...

Mathematical model of high-temperature melt flow with account for short-range order nature

open access: yesBulletin of the Karaganda University "Physics Series", 2019
The problems of mathematical description of the viscous motion of the metal melt accompanied by overcoming the internal friction caused by the movement of particles and overcoming the forces of their interaction are investigated. Solutions of hydrodynamic equations involving quantum potentials of interparticle interaction of atoms in melts, and quantum
