Mathematics

Science, 1980
Current research in mathematics involves a wide variety of interlocking ideas, old and new. For example, results about the curves and surfaces defined by polynomial equations, as in algebraic geometry, appear in the study of solitary waves and also in the gauge theories in physics.

SOM’s mathematics

Neural Networks, 2006
Since the discovery of the SOM's by T. Kohonen, many results that provide a better description of their behaviour have been found. Most of them are very convincing, but from a mathematical point of view, only a few are actually proved. In this paper, we make a review of some results that are still to be proved and give some framework to formulate ...

Mathematical Marbling

IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2012
In this paper, the proposed method takes a mathematical approach with closed-form expressions to simulate marbling. This method improves control, ease of implementation, parallelism, and speed, enabling real-time visual feedback and creation of vivid flowing animations. Users can start designs from a blank sheet, raster images, or videos.

Mathematics and Philosophy of Mathematics

Philosophia Mathematica, 1994

Mathematical kayles

International Journal of Game Theory, 1992
Kayles, first introduced by \textit{H. E. Dudeney} [``Canterbury puzzles'' (London 1910), p. 118, p. 120] and \textit{S. Loyd} [``Cyclopedia of tricks and puzzles'' (New York 1914), p. 232], is an impartial combinatorial game, played with rows of skittles. Two players alternatively remove a single skittle or two contiguous ones.
