Presence and expression of the mating type locus in Paracoccidioides brasiliensis isolates

Fungal Genetics and Biology, 2010
Paracoccidioides brasiliensis has been classified in the phylum Ascomycota, order Onygenales, family Ajellomycetaceae, even in the absence of a known sexual cycle or mating system. The objective of this work was to determine the presence of the mating type locus in 71 P. brasiliensis isolates from various sources. A PCR assay using specific primers for

The Aα mating-type locus ofSchizophyflum commune: Structure and function of geneX

Current Genetics, 1996
Gene X maps immediately right of gene Y at the A alpha mating-type locus in Schizophyllum commune. Alleles X1, X3 and X4 were isolated, subcloned, and sequenced. The structure of the alleles and their relationship to the A alpha locus is described.

Specificity at the b mating type locus of ustilago maydis

2009
The ability to discriminate between self and nonself allows Ustilago maydis to maintain genetic diversity through a multiallelic mating type system governed by the b locus. There are approximately 25 different alleles of the b locus and a given individual is incompatible with "self, but compatible with all "nonself mating types. The b locus consists of

The function of the mating-type locus in filamentous Ascomycetes

1965
Heterothallism in the Euascomycetes has been of interest to mycologists ever since its discovery by Dodge (1920) in Ascobolus magnificus. In this classic paper, he showed that heterothallism in this species is a genetically determined condition in which the two mating groups (A, a) are determined by the two alleles (A, a) at a single locus.

Chromosomal heteromorphism linked to the mating type locus of the oomycete Phytophthora infestans

Molecular and General Genetics MGG, 1996
The mating type locus of the oomycete, Phytophthora infestans, is embedded in a region of DNA that displays distorted and non-Mendelian segregation. By using DNA probes linked to the mating type locus to genetically and physically characterize that region, a large zone of chromosomal heteromorphism was detected.
