Mating influence in the ovary differentiation in adult queens of Apis mellifera L. (Hymenoptera, Apidae)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
The present results show that in the ovarioles of a newly emerged (0 day) queen of A. mellifera only two regions may be distinguished: a proximal, short germarium and a very long distal, terminal filament.

Is ultra-violet fluorescence a trait related to breeding in the Mongolian racerunner (Eremias argus; Lacertidae, Reptilia)?

open access: yesJournal of Biological Research - Thessaloniki, 2023
Ornamental traits such as ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence and reflectance can provide honest signals indicating the bearer’s condition as a potential mate. UV fluorescence is widely found in nature and used for multiple functions, such as indicating female

Maintenance of polymorphism in the orb weaving spider species Agalenatea redii (Araneae, Araneidae)

open access: yesArachnologische Mitteilungen, 2012
The maintenance of polymorphism within populations may be the consequence of several elements of species life history such as use of space, activity rhythms, predation, parasitism and reproduction.

Non-random mating for selection with restricted rates of inbreeding and overlapping generations

open access: yesGenetics Selection Evolution, 2002
Minimum coancestry mating with a maximum of one offspring per mating pair (MC1) is compared with random mating schemes for populations with overlapping generations. Optimum contribution selection is used, whereby ΔF is restricted.

Mating Success of Gypsy Moth (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae) Females in Southern Wisconsin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Mating success of laboratory-reared gypsy moth Lymantria dispar (L.) females exposed for 24 hr on tree boles and its relationship to male moth counts in pheromone-baited traps was studied in southern Wisconsin. The relationship between mating probability

Improved timed-mating, non-invasive method using fewer unproven female rats with pregnancy validation via early body mass increases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
For studies requiring accurate conception-timing, reliable, efficient methods of detecting oestrus reduce time and costs, whilst improving welfare. Standard methods use vaginal cytology to stage cycle, and breeders are paired–up using approximately five ...
