Are men intimidated by highly educated women? Undercover on Tinder [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
In this study, we examine the impact of an individual's education level on her/his mating success on the mobile dating app Tinder. To do so, we conducted a field experiment on Tinder in which we collected data on 3,600 profile evaluations.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

The Critical Impact of Sub‐ and Supraoptimal Temperatures on Male Fertility Potential of an Invasive Fruit Fly

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
In insects, thermal fertility limits have a narrower tolerance range than survival. Therefore, deciphering these critical limits is crucial for understanding population dynamics during or after harsh winter or summer periods. Here investigated the impact

Mating Behaviour

open access: yes, 2019
This chapter describes the successful mating behaviour of wild fish held in captivity. It examines the unsuccessful mating behaviour of hatchery fish and discusses the cause of the reproductive behavioural dysfunction and future research aims. Unsuccessful mating behaviour was studied in a broodstock of hatchery Senegalese sole that infrequently ...

Effect of competitive cues on reproductive morphology and behavioral plasticity in male fruitflies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Phenotypic plasticity will be favored whenever there are significant fitness benefits of responding to environmental variation. The extent and nature of the plasticity that evolves depends on the rate of environmental fluctuations and the capacity to ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Observation of heterospecific mating attempt of Blue Chaser Libellula fulva Müller, 1764 and Broad-bodied Chaser L. depressa Linnaeus, 1758 (Anisoptera: Libellulidae)

open access: yesNatura Sloveniae, 2023
A successful copula formation between a male of Libellula fulva and a female of L. depressa was documented photographically on 23. 6. 2022 at a small stream in the Natura 2000 site Ličenca pri Poljčanah in NE Slovenia.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...
