Angiosperm phylogeny based on MATK sequence information

American Journal of Botany, 2003
Plastid matK gene sequences for 374 genera representing all angiosperm orders and 12 genera of gymnosperms were analyzed using parsimony (MP) and Bayesian inference (BI) approaches. Traditionally, slowly evolving genomic regions have been preferred for deep-level phylogenetic inference in angiosperms.

Molecular evolution and positive Darwinian selection of the chloroplast maturase matK

Journal of Plant Research, 2009
It is not clear whether matK evolves under Darwinian selection. In this study, 70 plant groups, representing 2,279 species at various evolutionary levels, were used to illustrate the molecular adaptation and evolutionary dynamics of gene divergence in matKs. Selective influences were investigated using standard dN/dS ratio methods.

matK DNA Sequences and Phylogenetic Reconstruction in Saxifragaceae s. str.

Systematic Botany, 1994
Comparative DNA sequencing of matK, a maturase coding gene located within the intron of the chloroplast gene trnK, was evaluated for phylogenetic utility using genera of Saxi- fragaceae s. str. The entire matK gene was sequenced for two members of the family, Sullivantia sullivantii and Saxifraga integrifolia.
