Medical Knowledge Integration Into Reinforcement Learning Algorithms for Dynamic Treatment Regimes

open access: yesInternational Statistical Review, Volume 94, Issue 2, Page 382-411, August 2026.
Summary The goal of precision medicine is to provide individualised treatment at each stage of chronic diseases, a concept formalised by dynamic treatment regimes (DTR). These regimes adapt treatment strategies based on decision rules learned from clinical data to enhance therapeutic effectiveness.

The Natural Components of a Regular Linear System

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Volume 88, Issue 4, Page 603-622, August 2026.
ABSTRACT The analysis of a finite‐dimensional regular linear system may be simplified by separating the system into its natural components. The natural components are smaller linear systems on separate subspaces whose dimensions sum to the dimension of the original linear system.

The Mathematical History Behind the Granger–Johansen Representation Theorem

open access: yesOxford Bulletin of Economics and Statistics, Volume 88, Issue 4, Page 587-602, August 2026.
ABSTRACT When can a vector time series that is integrated once (i.e., becomes stationary after taking first differences) be described in error correction form? The answer to this is provided by the Granger–Johansen representation theorem. From a mathematical point of view, the theorem can be viewed as essentially a statement concerning the geometry of ...

Navigating the Path to Mathematics Success: Exploring Academic Performance and Exclusionary School Discipline Among Black Students

open access: yesSchool Science and Mathematics, Volume 126, Issue 4, Page 391-402, August 2026.
ABSTRACT This study examines the predictive relationships among early mathematics and reading achievement, school discipline, and later mathematics performance for Black students. Using path analysis, we analyze a cohort of 36,668 Black students in Texas public schools from fourth to seventh grade.

How to see the forest despite the trees

open access: yesJournal of the London Mathematical Society, Volume 114, Issue 2, August 2026.
Abstract One of the major starting points of discrete optimization is the theorem of Nash‐Williams and Tutte on the existence of k$k$ disjoint spanning trees of a graph, along with its counterpart on the existence of k$k$ forests covering all edges of the graph.
