Underrepresentation of bats in Africa's protected areas

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 40, Issue 1, February 2026.
Abstract Biodiversity is severely threatened globally, with habitat loss and other human pressures accelerating species extinctions. Protected areas (PAs) are a critical conservation tool; however, their effectiveness in safeguarding many taxa, such as bats, remains unclear.

Effect of primate protection on threatened and endemic vertebrates, plants, ecosystem services, and future climate refugia

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 5, October 2025.
Abstract Primates, 69% of which are threatened with extinction, are the third most specious order of mammals. We used primates as model taxa to examine the umbrella effects of primates on ecosystem services and the protection of other vertebrates and seed plants in Yunnan Province, China.

Identification of Priority Areas for Conservation of Threatened Agamid Lizards of Sri Lanka Using Species Distribution Modeling

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 2, Page 188-204, June 2025.
We assessed the distribution of 14 threatened agamid lizard species using Species Distribution Modeling to identify hotspots for these species' conservation. Based on the results, high‐priority areas of threatened agamids were projected to occur specially in the wet zone.

Effects of snake fungal disease (ophidiomycosis) on the skin microbiome across two major experimental scales

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 39, Issue 2, April 2025.
Abstract Emerging infectious diseases are increasingly recognized as a significant threat to global biodiversity conservation. Elucidating the relationship between pathogens and the host microbiome could lead to novel approaches for mitigating disease impacts.

Long‐Distance Corridors Facilitate Asian Elephant Adaptation to Climate Change

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 57-70, March 2025.
Climate change presents significant challenges for Asian elephants, forcing them to either remain in degraded habitats or seek new ones. But, remaining would lead to resource shortages, while moving is hindered by movement barriers. This study integrates species distribution models (MaxEnt) and the minimum cumulative resistance (MCR) model to construct

Different Responses of Two Endangered Sister Tree Species to Climate Change: A Comparison Between Island and Continental Populations in Tropical Asia

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 95-106, March 2025.
Climate change is widely recognized as a major threat to biodiversity and a critical factor contributing to the decline of species and populations. The study investigates the differential impacts of climate change on endangered continental and island specie.

Conservation Gap Within a Nature Reserve: A Case Study in the Biodiversity Hotspot of Rare and Endangered Plants at the Southern Gaoligong Mountains

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 4, Issue 1, Page 71-84, March 2025.
Gaoligong Mountain is home to a large number of rare and endangered species, but the effectiveness of conservation measures in the Gaoligong Mountain Nature Reserve remains uncertain. We predicted the potential distribution areas of 361 rare and endangered wild plants in southern Gaoligong Mountain under current and future climate change scenarios and ...

Projected Climate Scenarios Reveal an Expanding Suitable Habitat for the Critically Endangered African White‐Backed Vulture Gyps africanus

open access: yesIntegrative Conservation, Volume 3, Issue 4, Page 398-409, December 2024.
Understanding the potential impacts of projected climate change scenarios on critically endangered species is critical to guide effective conservation planning. Species distribution modelling techniques such as MaxEnt are increasingly becoming important tools for predicting habitat shifts in response to projected climate change scenarios.
