Morphology and ultrastructure of chemosensory sensilla of labio-maxillary complex in the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Col.: Chrysomelidae), larvae [PDF]
The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), is a destructive insect pest of potato and other solanaceous crops. The type, number and distribution of sensory receptors on the labio-maxillary complex of larvae were studied using the ...

The Cephalic Morphology of Protopselaphus-A Phylogenetic Connecting Link in Staphylinidae (Coleoptera). [PDF]
The head morphology including soft tissues of an ethanol‐preserved specimen of Protopselaphus was examined using synchrotron‐µCT and SEM and interpreted with respect to their possible phylogenetic implications. Our findings strongly support the monophyly of Protopselaphinae + Pselaphinae, with adult cephalic synapomorphies including the vertical ...

Anatomical Investigation Reveals a Second Olfactory System in Locusts. [PDF]
We traced chemosensory pathways from locust palps through the central nervous system. Olfactory input from basiconic sensilla targets the glomerular lobe and accessory calyx, whereas gustatory input is restricted to gnathal circuits. Thus, the palp and antennal olfactory pathways form parallel but separate systems.

Distinctive gene expression in the reduced first thoracic legs of a nymphalid butterfly. [PDF]
Transcriptome analysis reveals that the small non‐walking front legs of a butterfly have distinct gene expression to the four walking legs. Reduced front legs express a gene with putative mechanosensory roles, a blue‐sensitive opsin and two homeobox genes.

Commercial permethrin elicits chemoreceptive responses on different Anopheles gambiae sensory appendages. [PDF]
Anopheles gambiae mosquitoes exhibit takeoff responses when presented to commercial permethrin headspace. This product elicits electrophysiological activity in the antennae and tarsi. However, only the chemical information acquired from the tarsi plays a major role in the observed behavioral response.

Functional morphology of mouthparts and antennal sensillae of two co-generic aphidophagous ladybirds [PDF]
Functional morphology of sensillae on the antennae and mouthparts of two co-generic aphidophagous ladybird species, viz. Coccinella septempunctata and Coccinella transversalis (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) were studied using scanning electron microscopy to

Megabruchidius dorsalis (Fåhraeus, 1839) (Coleoptera: Bruchinae) is an important pest that damages the seeds of Gleditsia L. (Fabaceae: Caesalpinioideae). This beetle searches for host plants with its sensory system.
