The maxillary nerve, the V2 branch of the trigeminal ganglion, innervates the sensory branches of the midface. The nerve can be entrapped in the area of foramen rotundum or infraorbital foramen, as well as by anatomical change due to dental trauma, vascular anomaly, fibrous dysplasia, scar tissue, and schwannoma, causing unilateral facial pain.

Maxillary nerve involvement in bacterial endocarditis
Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1985A case of right maxillary nerve paresthesia during an active phase of bacterial endocarditis probably due to embolic occlusion of the nerve's vascular supply is reported. The authors suggest that infective endocarditis be considered as a rare but potential cause of unexplained trigeminal nerve branch lesions, and that such lesions be sought in cases of

Anatomic Considerations in Relation to the Maxillary Nerve Block
Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, 2001To determine the length of the needle that should be used to reach the maxillary nerve after the lateral pterygoid plate has been contacted. The study was conducted on patients and skulls. Patient study: The distances from skin at the midpoint of lower border of zygomatic arch to lateral pterygoid plate and to the point where a paresthesia in the ...

THE MAXILLARY NERVE IN THE CEBOIDEA
Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London, 1957Summary. The relative proportions and distribution of the zygomatic and infraorbital branches of the maxillary nerve have been examined in twenty‐one New World Monkeys, representing eight genera. In the subfamilies Aotinae and Pitheciinae the infraorbital nerve is bigger than the zygomatic, and twigs of its lateral branch form a plexus with filaments ...

Journal of morphology, 2014
The trigeminal, the fifth cranial nerve of vertebrates, represents the rostralmost component of the nerves assigned to pharyngeal arches. It consists of the ophthalmic and maxillomandibular nerves, and in jawed vertebrates, the latter is further divided into two major branches dorsoventrally.

Surgical Treatment of Maxillary Nerve Injuries: The Infraorbital Nerve
Atlas of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics, 2001Although inferior alveolar and lingual nerve injuries appear to occur more often, there are undoubtedly cases of ION injury that require evaluation and possible surgical intervention by the oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Patients with ION injuries will require a neurosensory examination for the determination of the level of sensory impairment, or the ...

Lagophthalmos after V2 Maxillary Nerve Block
A & A Case Reports, 2014We report a previously undescribed complication associated with percutaneous maxillary nerve blockade. After the procedure, the patient reported an inability to close her ipsilateral eye (lagophthalmos). The patient had received 5 mL of 0.5% lidocaine for skin anesthesia.

Neurotropic melanoma of the face invading the maxillary nerve
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology, 1985Neurotropic melanoma is a variant of desmoplastic melanoma which, in addition to a spindle‐cell vertical component and fibrosis, exhibits a lascicular growth pattern and invades cutaneous nerves. Here we describe a neurotropic melanoma which arose in a small Ientigo maligna melanoma and invaded the maxillary nerve for a distance of 5 cm ...

Doubled foramen rotundum and maxillary nerve fenestration
Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2011Even though the doubled foramen rotundum (FR) can be identified once within the literature, there are no details of the contents at that level. We present here an anatomical case demonstrating the maxillary nerve (MN) duplication at the level of an unilateral doubled FR: the accessory nervous trunk of the MN separately left the trigeminal ganglion on ...
