Unearthing the impact of earthquakes: A review of economic and social consequences
Abstract The purpose of this paper is to offer a comprehensive overview of the socioeconomic effects of earthquakes. We begin with a thorough literature review. Following this, we assess policy measures taken in response to major earthquakes, drawing on existing research to formulate insights and recommendations that policymakers can use to effectively

The well‐known insensitive high explosive, 1,3,5‐triamino‐2,4,6‐trinitrobenzene (TATB), decomposes in abnormal environments, such as heat and impact, to produce, in part, 4,6‐diamino‐5,7‐dinitro‐benzo‐furazan (F1). This reaction has been documented for almost 50 years, but the structure of F1 has remained elusive.

2‐Adic Quantum Mechanics, Continuous‐Time Quantum Walks, and the Space Discreteness
Abstract The authors show that a large class of 2‐adic Schrödinger equations is the scaling limit of certain continuous‐time quantum Markov chains (CTQMCs). Practically, a discretization of such an equation gives a CTQMC. As a practical result, new types of continuous‐time quantum walks (CTQWs) on graphs using two symmetric matrices are constructed ...

Indirect plant defense may provide economically important pest suppression in sorghum
Laboratory measures of sorghum direct and indirect plant resistance traits aligned with natural enemy recruitment and pest suppression in the field. Abstract BACKGROUND A promising strategy to optimize biological control of insect pests is selecting crop varieties with indirect defense traits.

Beyond Kagome: p$p$‐Bands in Kagome Metals
Recent studies on quantum materials where transition‐metal atoms give rise to d$d$‐bands typical of kagome metals are reviewed. Using examples from several material families – AV3Sb5${\rm AV}_3{\rm Sb}_5$, FeGe, RV6Sn6${\rm RV}_6{\rm Sn}_6$, and LaRu3Si2${\rm LaRu}_3{\rm Si}_2$ – it is argued that p$p$‐bands contributed by elements beyond the kagome ...

ABSTRACT Hexacopter operations in the atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) are affected by gusty winds and turbulence, leading to collision risks or crashes. Stability of the hexacopter UAV in gusty winds is challenging in urban space. In this paper, non‐singular fast terminal sliding mode control (NFTSMC) is optimized using particle swarm optimization for
