Baseline spirometry parameters as predictors of airway hyperreactivity in adults with suspected asthma

open access: yesBMC Pulmonary Medicine, 2021
Background Methacholine challenge tests (MCTs) are used to diagnose airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) in patients with suspected asthma where previous diagnostic testing has been inconclusive.

Ventilatory Limitation of Exercise in Pediatric Subjects Evaluated for Exertional Dyspnea

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Purpose: Attribution of ventilatory limitation to exercise when the ratio of ventilation (V˙E) at peak work to maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) exceeds 0.80 is problematic in pediatrics. Instead, expiratory flow limitation (EFL) measured by tidal flow-

Excessive gas exchange impairment during exercise in a subject with a history of bronchopulmonary dysplasia and high altitude pulmonary edema [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A 27-year-old male subject (V(O2 max)), 92% predicted) with a history of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and a clinically documented case of high altitude pulmonary edema (HAPE) was examined at rest and during exercise.

Validation of new marker of fluid responsiveness based on Doppler assessment of blood flow velocity in superior vena cava in mechanically ventilated pigs

open access: yesIntensive Care Medicine Experimental, 2018
Background We studied a novel approach for the evaluation and management of volemia: minimally invasive monitoring of respiratory blood flow variations in the superior vena cava (SVC). We performed an experiment with 10 crossbred (Landrace × large white)

Padrões ventilatórios na espirometria em pacientes adolescentes e adultos com fibrose cística Respiratory patterns in spirometric tests of adolescents and adults with cystic fibrosis

Gas exchange during exercise in habitually active asthmatic subjects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
We determined the relations among gas exchange, breathing mechanics, and airway inflammation during moderate- to maximum-intensity exercise in asthmatic subjects.

An Integrated Oxygen‐Supplying Device and Predictive Multiphysics Model for Extended Ambient Transport of Insulin‐Producing Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Cell therapies typically rely on cold‐chain logistics and cryopreservation, limiting access and compromising cell quality. Here, a dual‐chamber device separates an oxygen‐supplying chamber from a hyaluronic acid cargo chamber, sustaining oxygen delivery for over 70 h and enabling ambient‐temperature shipment.
