Evolution of Maximal Oxygen Uptake in Children
2007Evidence exists that physiologic aerobic fitness, defined by maximal oxygen uptake related to body mass (VO2 x kg-1), bears health implications for children as well as adults. Identifying secular trends in VO2max x kg-1 is important, then, in assessing the impact of socio-cultural influences on aerobic fitness in youth.

A maximal cycle exercise protocol to predict maximal oxygen uptake
Scandinavian Journal of Medicine & Science in Sports, 1995Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) was predicted from maximal power output (MPO) in a progressive cycle ergometer test. The subjects were 232 men and 303 women 15–28 years of age. The relationship between VO2max and MPO was: V O2max (1 · min−1) = 0.16 + (0.0117 × MPO) (w). A correlation coefficient of r= 0.88 was found between MPO and VO2max.

Mean myoglobin oxygen tension during exercise at maximal oxygen uptake
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1975Changes in intracellular Po2 in myoglobin containing skeletal muscle during exercise were estimated in normal nonathlete subjects from measurements of shifts of CO between blood and muscle under conditions where the total body CO stores remained constant. Exercise was performed on a bicycle ergometer.

Sex difference in maximal oxygen uptake

VO2max was measured on a cycle ergometer using a continuous, load-incremented protocol.

Factors limiting maximal oxygen uptake in exertional monoparesis
Multiple Sclerosis Journal, 2005Strength and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) for each leg were compared in a trained multiple sclerosis (MS) patient with exertional left monoparesis. Left quadriceps strength and left leg VO2max were 22% and 30% lower, respectively, compared to the right (control) leg.

Central oxygen delivery depends on cardiac output and maximal arterial oxygen content. Peripheral extraction of the delivered oxygen is expressed as a-v O2.

[Oxygen uptake and maximal oxygen uptake: interests and limits of their measurements].

The validity of the oxygen uptake as an estimation of the oxygen consumption and aerobic synthesis of ATP is discussed in the introduction of the review.
