Maximal oxygenation of dilute blood Cardioplegic solution
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1987The content of dissolved O2 (the major source of O2 for the myocardium) of dilute blood cardioplegic solution (dBCS) varied widely when oxygenated at 4 degrees C by surface flow of O2 in a Bentley BCR-3500 cardiotomy reservoir. We have modified the system to consistently deliver maximally oxygenated dBCS to the heart.

Maximally-diagonal solution to the inverse LQR problem
Proceedings of 1994 33rd IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002The inverse LQR problem is solved, using a convex optimization technique. The non-diagonal elements of the state weighting matrix are minimized, as opposed to the approaches existing in the literature. This minimization is very important from practical point of view. >

The Asymptotic Solutions of the Capacity Maximal Quantization Problem
2015 IEEE 82nd Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2015-Fall), 2015This paper proposes approximation approaches to the problem of finding optimal quantization schemes that maximize the mutual information of Gaussian channels, by deriving asymptotic solutions that are simple and analytical. Two major results are presented: i) we derived an approximation scheme with its quantization thresholds linearly depending on the ...

Utility Maximization as a Solution
American Behavioral Scientist, 1999The distinction between economic and environmental values is, in part, the result of a historical accident in which economics separated itself from its roots in utilitarianism. Much of economics now concerns itself with what is priced easily, so it leaves out much of the value of natural resources. We can solve this problem by replacing monetary value,

Essential Stability of Solutions for Maximal Element Theorem with Applications
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 2011In this paper, the essential stability of solutions for the maximal element theorem is examined proving that most problems in the sense of Baire category are essential. As immediate applications, one deduces the existence of essential components for Ky Fan's points sets and Nash equilibria.

Strong solutions and maximal solutions of generalized algebraic Riccati equations
2008 47th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2008In this paper, we present a comparison theorem for the solutions of two generalized algebraic Riccati equations (GAREs) coming from two different systems. We show that the so-called strong solutions, whose related matrix pencils have all their finite eigenvalues in the closed left half plane, are maximal.

ANNALI DELL'UNIVERSITA' DI FERRARA, 2016Let \(U \subset \mathbb{R}\) be open and bounded. Take \(H(x,p): U \times \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}\) measurable in \(x\) for all \(p\), and convex/superlinear in \(p\) for all \(x\). The author studies \[ (\ast) \begin{cases} H\left(x,Du(x)\right) = 0 & \text{ in } U, \\ u=v & \text{ on } \partial U, \end{cases} \] where \(v \in W^{1,\infty}\left(U ...
