OVERGROUPS OF WEAK SECOND MAXIMAL SUBGROUPS
Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2018A subgroup $H$ is called a weak second maximal subgroup of $G$ if $H$ is a maximal subgroup of a maximal subgroup of $G$. Let $m(G,H)$ denote the number of maximal subgroups of $G$ containing $H$. We prove that $m(G,H)-1$ divides the index of some maximal subgroup of $G$ when $H$ is a weak second maximal subgroup of $G$.

On maximal subgroups of Thompson’s group $F$
Groups, Geometry, and Dynamics, 2022We study subgroups of Thompson's group $F$ by means of an automaton associated with them. We prove that every maximal subgroup of $F$ of infinite index is closed, that is, it coincides with the subgroup of $F$ accepted by the automaton associated with it.

Maximal subgroups of finitely presented special inverse monoids
Journal of the European Mathematical Society (Print), 2022We study the maximal subgroups (also known as group \mathcal{H} -classes) of finitely presented special inverse monoids. We show that the maximal subgroups which can arise in such monoids are exactly the recursively presented groups, and ...

On 2-maximal subgroups of finite groups
Communications in Algebra, 2021We distinguish 2-maximal and strictly 2-maximal subgroups of a finite group and give examples of soluble and simple groups in which every 2-maximal subgroup is strictly 2-maximal. Let M be a maximal subgroup of a group G.

The influence of second maximal subgroups on the generalized p-solvability of finite groups
Communications in Algebra, 2021We investigate the influence of some second maximal subgroups on the structure of finite groups. In details, the p-solvability and generalized p-solvability of finite groups are determined by considering the cover-avoidance property of the sets of some ...
