Maximal Homotopy Lie Subgroups of Maximal Rank
Canadian Journal of Mathematics, 1988Let G be a compact connected Lie group with H a connected subgroup of maximal rank. Suppose there exists a compact connected Lie subgroup K with H ⊂ K ⊂ G. Then there exists a smooth fiber bundle G/H → G/K with K/H as the fiber ...

Maximal Subgroups of Almost Subnormal Subgroups in Division Rings
Acta Mathematica Vietnamica, 2021A subgroup \(H\) of \(G\) is called ``almost subnormal'' if there exists a finite sequence of subgroups \(H=H_1 < H_2 < \dots

OVERGROUPS OF WEAK SECOND MAXIMAL SUBGROUPS
Bulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2018A subgroup $H$ is called a weak second maximal subgroup of $G$ if $H$ is a maximal subgroup of a maximal subgroup of $G$. Let $m(G,H)$ denote the number of maximal subgroups of $G$ containing $H$. We prove that $m(G,H)-1$ divides the index of some maximal subgroup of $G$ when $H$ is a weak second maximal subgroup of $G$.

Maximal and submaximal \(\mathfrak{X}\)-subgroups
Algebra i logika, 2018Let $X$ be a class of finite groups closed under taking subgroups, homomorphic images, and extensions. A subgroup $H$ of a finite group $G$ is called a submaximal $X$-subgroup if there exists an isomorphic embedding $\phi : G \hookrightarrow G^*$ of $G$ into some finite group $G^*$ under which $G^{\phi}$ is subnormal in $G^*$ and $H^{\phi} = K \cap G^{\

Maximal Subgroups of Infinite Symmetric Groups
Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society, 1994This work is concerned with maximal subgroups of \(S=\text{Sym}(\Omega)\) where \(\Omega\) is a set of infinite cardinality \(\kappa\). Known examples include stabilizers of finite sets, ``almost'' stabilizers of infinite sets \(\Sigma\) where \(| \Sigma|< \kappa\), and ``almost'' stabilizers of finite partitions.

Maximal Subgroups of Infinite Symmetric Groups
Journal of the London Mathematical Society, 1990It is shown that if G is a permutation group on a countable set X and if G is not highly transitive, then G is contained in some maximal proper subgroup of the full symmetric group on X.

Maximal Subgroups of Infinite Symmetric Groups
Canadian Mathematical Bulletin, 1967The purpose of this paper is to extend results of Ball [1] concerning maximal subgroups of the group S(X) of all permutations of the infinite set X. The basic idea is to consider S(X) as a group of operators on objects more complicated than X. The objects we consider here are subspaces of the Stone-Čech compactification of the discrete space X and the ...
