Maximum likelihood degree, complete quadrics and ${\mathbb C}^*$-action [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
We study the maximum likelihood (ML) degree of linear concentration models in algebraic statistics. We relate it to an intersection problem on the variety of complete quadrics. This allows us to provide an explicit, basic, albeit of high computational complexity, formula for the ML-degree.

UK Rules For Unfired Pressure Vessels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The present code PD 5500, formerly BS 5500 [1] evolved partly from the well-known BS 1500 [2] in the 1950's and BS 1515 [3] first published in 1965; the latter permitted higher level allowable stresses and more advanced rules. In 1969, following a report

Targeting PRAME directly or via EZH2 inhibition overcomes retinoid resistance and represents a novel therapy for keratinocyte carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.

Determination of Heavy Metals and Pesticides in Different Types of Fish Samples Collected from Four Different Locations of Aegean and Marmara Sea

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2020
Heavy metals and pollutants cause serious damage to the ecological environment and accumulate in marine species in the seas. These pollutants and heavy metals accumulating in living species are a serious source of danger for human health.

Generalized Friedel sum rule and anomalies of the mobility due to the resonant scattering of electrons by donor impurities in semiconductors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2004
On the basis of Friedel approach the theoretical description of the effects of resonance scattering of conduction electrons by donor impurities in semiconductors with allowance for the stabilization of electron concentration in coinciding the Fermi energy with the resonance level energy has been developed.

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Highly multiplexed digital PCR assay for simultaneous quantification of variant allele frequencies and copy number alterations of KRAS and GNAS in pancreatic cancer precursors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples

ECOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE EFFECT OF HEAVY METALS ON GROWTH PROCESSES AND BIOMASS OF SALAD «BIONTLOLO»

open access: yesRUDN Journal of Ecology and Life Safety, 2016
Compounds of lead and cadmium, possessing high toxicity, a cumulative inhibit production process, reduce a salad biomass gain. Research showed that oppression of root system was shown in reduction of number of small backs, and on the main roots there ...

Concentration results for directed polymer with unbounded jumps [PDF]

open access: yesALEA Lat. Am. J. Probab. Math. Stat. 15 (2018), no. 1, 1--20, 2016
We study the free energy and its relevant quantity for the directed polymer in random environment. The polymer is allowed to make unbounded jumps and the environment is given by the Bernoulli variables. We first establish the concentration of the ground state energy of polymer at zero temperature.

Effects of local reinforcement on nozzles in dished ends [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The results of a parametric design study, to determine the optimum diameter of reinforcing pad for nozzles in the knuckle region of an ellipsoidal pressure vessel head are presented herein.
