Cadmium concentrations in Idaho wheat grain and soil

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences & Environment, 2022
Current efforts to reduce the maximum allowable cadmium (Cd) concentrations in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) for at‐risk populations such as infants require sourcing wheat with low concentrations of Cd.

Analysis of potentially toxic contaminants in milk powder

open access: yesJournal of Mind and Medical Sciences, 2021
The aim of this study was to identify potentially toxic contaminants in milk powder. Powdered milk contains a range of toxic and non-toxic substances that are present in a wide variety, also having very different origins.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Assessing the level of heavy metals concentration in soil around transformer at Akoko community of OndoState, Nigeria

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2021
Some heavy metals have bio-importance as trace elements but the bio-toxic effects of many of them in human biochemistry are of great concern. The level of heavy metals concentrations of transformer oil polluted soil was assessed in Akungba Akoko ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

DETERMINATION OF CONCENTRATION OF HEAVY METALS AFTER MORDANT DYEING WITH VEGETABLE DYES IN WOOL FIBERS STRUCTURE

open access: yesВестник Дагестанского государственного технического университета: Технические науки, 2016
This paper describes a method for quantifying the content of heavy metal ions on the example of mordant dyeing with vegetable dyes thistle. As mordant used copper salts.

Air quality assessment for Kunooz Gabbro quarry in Oman: assessment of PM10

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pioneering Technology and Engineering, 2022
This study provided an air quality assessment for Kunooz Gabbro Quarry in Al Jaffnain, Al-Seeb, Oman and focused mainly on emitted particulate matter 10 micrometers or less in diameter (PM10) from different sources inside the plant.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
