Masticatory Performance and Maximum Bite and Lip Force Depend on the Type of Prosthesis
The International Journal of Prosthodontics, 2017The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess maximum restraining lip force (MLF), maximum voluntary bite force (MBF), and patient-related parameters to evaluate their influence on masticatory function in four groups of participants with different dental states.Participants were recruited and assigned to one of four different groups depending on ...

The maximum average bite force for a given jaw length
Journal of Zoology, 1988Major osteological landmarks were used to prepare idealized drawings of mammalian and reptilian lower jaws. Measurements from these drawings allowed the average output or bite force, along the entire jaw, to be calculated for many different anteroposterior positions of the input or muscle force.

Maximum bite force and related dental status in children with deciduous dentition
Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, 2005Six hundred seventy-six Taiwanese children with deciduous dentition were sampled for maximum bite force and related dental status. Sixty-seven percent of children had at least one decayed tooth. The mean number of decayed teeth of all children was 2.97±3.58, and the mean plaque index of the right maxillary central incisor was 2.00±0.75.

Effects of masticatory muscle training on maximum bite force and muscular endurance
Acta Odontologica Scandinavica, 2012This study evaluates the effects of chewing training on strength and endurance of the masticatory muscles.Of the 49 healthy young adults included in the study, nine served as controls for a baseline measurement of bite force. The 40 participants who actively trained their masticatory muscles were randomly divided into a 'continuous training group' (CTG)

The effect of local periodontal anaesthesia on the maximum biting force achieved by human subjects
Archives of Oral Biology, 1980Abstract Experiments were performed on 15 volunteers who clenched as hard as possible on a force transducer placed between canine and premolar teeth. Clenches were maintained for 5 s and repeated every 1.5 min. Initially, 10–15 clenches were recorded to establish a reference value for maximum static biting force (MBF).
