Simulation and analysis of collapsing vapor-bubble clusters with special emphasis on potentially erosive impact loads at walls [PDF]
Cavitation is a process where a liquid evaporates due to a pressure drop and re-condenses violently. Noise, material erosion and altered system dynamics characterize for such a process for which shock waves, rarefaction waves and vapor generation are ...

Comprehensive analysis of spherical bubble oscillations and shock wave emission in laser-induced cavitation [PDF]
The dynamics of spherical laser-induced cavitation bubbles in water is investigated by plasma photography, time-resolved shadowgraphs, and single-shot probe beam scattering enabling to portray the transition from initial nonlinear to late linear oscillations. The frequency of late oscillations yields the bubble's gas content.

Transient interactions between bubbles and a high-speed cylinder in underwater launches: An experimental and numerical study [PDF]
The underwater launch of high-speed vehicles involves complex bubble-structure interactions, which are not currently well understood. In this study, two small-scale experiments are carried out involving transient bubble-cylinder interactions. We adopt the underwater electric discharge method to generate a high-pressure bubble that drives a cylinder to ...

Jet formation from bubbles near a solid boundary in a compressible liquid. Numerical study of distance dependence [PDF]
A small, spherical bubble of high internal pressure is inserted into water at constant ambient pressure as a model of a laser-induced bubble. Its subsequent dynamics near a flat solid boundary is studied in dependence on the distance of the bubble to the boundary by numerically solving the Navier-Stokes equations with the help of the open source ...

Bubble nucleation and jetting inside a millimetric droplet [PDF]
In this work, we present experiments and simulations on the nucleation and successive dynamics of laser-induced bubbles inside liquid droplets in free-fall motion, i.e. a case with a free boundary in all directions. The droplets of a millimetric size have a nearly spherical shape by the moment the bubble is nucleated.

Failure Mechanisms of Hollow Fiber Supported Ionic Liquid Membranes
Hollow fiber supported ionic liquid membranes (SILMs) were tested using the bubble point method to investigate potential failure modes, including the maximum transmembrane pressure before loss of the ionic liquid from the support.

Numerical Study on Taylor Bubble Rising in Pipes
Slug flow is the most common multi-phase flow encountered in oil and gas industry. In this study, the hydrodynamic features of flow in pipes investigated numerically using computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulations for the effect of slug flow on the ...

Acoustophoretic trapping of particles by bubbles in microfluidics
We present in this paper a simple method to produce strategic acoustic particle capture sites in microfluidic channels in a controlled way. Air bubbles are intermittently injected into a micro-capillary with rectangular cross section during a flow motion
