Proposed Principles of Maximum Local Entropy Production
The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2012Articles have appeared that rely on the application of some form of "maximum local entropy production principle" (MEPP). This is usually an optimization principle that is supposed to compensate for the lack of structural information and measurements about complex systems, even systems as complex and as little characterized as the whole biosphere or the

Prigogine and Wiame noticed correctly that biological processes are irreversible and as such should be described within irreversible thermodynamics. They took the entropy production as the basic quantity for the description of biological processes. In contrast to Prigogine.

Maximum entropy principle in relativistic radiation hydrodynamics
1997Summary: The principle of maximum entropy is employed in order to close the set of the moment equations in relativistic radiation hydrodynamics to a finite order. A procedure to obtain explicit expressions for the source terms is given. In particular, the bremsstrahlung and Thomson scattering are considered.

Entropies, Generalized Entropies, Inequalities, and the Maximum Entropy Principle
1987Different entropy concepts (increasingly general or particular depending on one’s point of view), the underlying knowledge (conditions, information) and inequalities associated to them are reviewed. Among the latter is the maximum entropy principle. It is proposed that entropies (in particular newly introduced ones) should be justified by showing that ...

Uncertainty, Entropy and Maximum Entropy Principle — An Overview
2003This introductory chapter aims to spell out the basics of entropy, maximum entropy frameworks and their applications in some fields. Applications are selected so as to avoid possible overlaps with the ones contained in this volume. Though the contents in this book are largely concerned with uncertainty of random phenomena, a brief overview of ...

The principle of maximum entropy
Abstract Shannon quantifies the information-carrying capacity of a channel. He connects this with the probabilities of the next letter being a or b, … and shows that Gibbs’s entropy of this probability distribution is the correct measure of the channel’s capacity.openaire +1 more source
