Possible dynamical explanations for Paltridge's principle of maximum entropy production
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014Throughout the history of non-equilibrium thermodynamics a number of theories have been proposed in which complex, far from equilibrium flow systems are hypothesised to reach a steady state that maximises some quantity. Perhaps the most celebrated is Paltridge's principle of maximum entropy production for the horizontal heat flux in Earth's atmosphere,

Some interesting consequences of the maximum entropy production principle
Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics, 2007Two nonequilibrium phase transitions (morphological and hydrodynamic) are analyzed by applying the maximum entropy production principle. Quantitative analysis is for the first time compared with experiment. Nonequilibrium crystallization of ice and laminar-turbulent flow transition in a circular pipe are examined as examples of morphological and ...

Relaxation proceses and maximum entropy production principle
2007Spontaneous transitions of an isolated system from one macroscopic state to another (relaxation processes) are accompanied by a change of entropy. Following Jaynes’ MaxEnt formalism it is shown that practically all possible microscopic developments of the system, within fixed time interval, are accompanied by the maximum possible entropy change.

Enzyme kinetics and maximum entropy production principle

There have been many attempts to use optimization approaches to study the biological evolution of enzyme kinetics. Our basic assumption here is that the biological evolution of catalytic cycle fluxes between enzyme internal functional states is accompanied by increased entropy production of the fluxes and increased Shannon information entropy of the ...

Stationary processes in dilute gases and the maximum entropy production principle
2004Transport Boltzmann euation is solved in the case of the stationary non-equilibrium processes close to the equilibrium. It is shown that among all possible fluxes, which ensure that the entropy produced in molecular collisions is equal to the entropy exported from the system, the actual fluxes are those that maximize the entropy production.

Evolutionary optimization of enzymatic reactions by Maximum Entropy Production Principle
2010A theoretical study of optimization of generalized reversible three state kinetic scheme of enzymatic reaction with respect to the Maximum Entropy Production Principle (MEPP) is presented. We calculated entropy production for each reaction transition of the kinetic scheme as a function either of forward or backward rate constant. We found that for each
