Biophysiologically Plausible Implementations of the Maximum Operation

Neural Computation, 2002
Visual processing in the cortex can be characterized by a predominantly hierarchical architecture, in which specialized brain regions along the processing pathways extract visual features of increasing complexity, accompanied by greater invariance in stimulus properties such as size and position.

An operator variant of the maximum principle

Mathematical Notes of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, 1984
The main result of the paper is the folowing. Let X be a compact topological space, \({\mathcal L}^ a \)Banach algebra, \({\mathcal C}={\mathcal C}(X,{\mathcal L})\) the Banach algebra of all continuous functions on X valued in \({\mathcal L}\) with the uniform norm.

Maximum area triangle operator for edge detection

Journal of Electronic Imaging, 1997
Currently images are more often noisy than regular, and universal contour extraction operators are few. The purely discrete operators are rather crude and inaccurate, while the more precise operators, which relying on the continuous approach, are complicated and rather slow.

The Maximum Principle for Holomorphic Operator Functions

Integral Equations and Operator Theory, 2010
Let \(L\) be a uniformly convex complex Banach space, \(\Omega\subset \mathbb{C}\) be a domain, \(f:\Omega\to \mathfrak{B}(L)\) be a holomorphic operator function and \(M_f=\sup\{\|f(z)\|:z\in\Omega\}\). The author shows that, if \(\|f(z_0)\|=M_f\) for some \(z_0\in\Omega\), then the coefficients of the nonconstant terms in the power series expansion ...

Operating Buildings for Maximum Benefit

2019
“DON’T JUST TELL ME, SHOW ME” is a big part of this chapter as we focus on reliable measurement and verification systems that provide feedback on the key performance indicators defined in the building owner’s goals and targets. Reliable and cost-effective measurement and verification systems connect all the critical elements of smart buildings ...

Maximum entropy analysis of genetic algorithm operators

1995
A maximum entropy approach is used to derive a set of equations describing the evolution of a genetic algorithm involving crossover, mutation and selection. The problem is formulated in terms of cumulants of the fitness distribution. Applying this method to very simple problems, the dynamics of the genetic algorithm can be reduced to a set of nonlinear

Extending the maximum operation time of the MNSR reactor

Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2016
An effective modification to extend the maximum operation time of the Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) to enhance the utilization of the reactor has been tested using the MCNP4C code. This modification consisted of inserting manually in each of the reactor inner irradiation tube a chain of three polyethylene-connected containers filled of water.
