Extreme Weather Events and Consumer Food Responses

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates consumer food responses to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, which affected a swath of the Southeastern U.S. in 2024. Using representative consumer survey data from six affected states, we analyze 10 distinct food responses classified into ex ante and ex post responses, and examine their associations with food insufficiency

Resolving passive heat transfer and phase‐change heat in cryogenic CO2 deposition (Desublimation) from CO2/N2 mixtures

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract In cryogenic CO2 desublimation systems where phase change dominates both heat transfer and separation, conventional lumped thermal‐resistance treatments embed interfacial latent heat into an overall heat‐transfer coefficient, obscuring how phase‐change heat is partitioned between the gas phase and the coolant and limiting diagnostic insight ...

Homogenized Maxwell’s Equations; a Model for Varistor Ceramics

open access: yes, 2008
A model for a semiconducting ceramic material used in devices to protect electrical equipment against overvoltages is presented. The fine structure in the material induces highly oscillating coefficients in the Maxwell equation.

Enhancing Sensitivity across Scales with Highly Sensitive Hall Effect‐Based Auxetic Tactile Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Herein, a tactile sensor based on hall‐effect sensors with an auxetic structure, called Hall effect‐based auxetic tactile sensor (HEATS), is proposed. The change in magnetism resulting from the deformation of the auxetic structure is utilized for sensing.

Kinetic Analysis of Transmetalation at Prototypical Nickel(II) Catalyst Species: Rates, Mechanisms, and Implications for Catalysis

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A 31P{1H} NMR method enabling direct measurement of transmetalation at Ni(II) is disclosed, providing an extensive kinetic dataset. Rates span five orders of magnitude and exhibit strong ligand dependence, with monodentate ligands promoting transmetalation.

Comment on “Can Charge Transfer Across C─H···O Hydrogen Bonds Stabilize Oil Droplets in Water?”

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Nanoscale oil droplets in water are kinetically stable and charged, with a pH dependent electrophoretic mobility. Although the source of this charge is agreed to arise from water, 2 main hypotheses remain: OH− adsorption or electronic charge density displaced via hydrogen bonds. Molecular surface specific experiments are reviewed, that all point to the

On polarization interface conditions for time-harmonic Maxwell’s equations

open access: yes
We consider the time-harmonic Maxwell’s equations with a polarization interface condition. The interface condition demands that one component of the electric field vanishes at the interface and that the corresponding component of the magnetic field has ...
