On the nonexistence of a vacuum black lens

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We demonstrate that five-dimensional, asymptotically flat, stationary and bi-axisymmetric, vacuum black holes with lens space L(n, 1) topology, possessing the simplest rod structure, do not exist.

Maxwell Chern Simons Theory in a Geometric Representation

open access: yes, 2000
We quantize the Maxwell Chern Simons theory in a geometric representation that generalizes the Abelian Loop Representation of Maxwell theory. We find that in the physical sector, the model can be seen as the theory of a massles scalar field with a ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

A growing bacterial colony in two dimensions as an active nematic

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Rod-shaped bacteria are an example of active matter. Here the authors find that a growing bacterial colony harbours internal cellular flows affecting orientational ordering in its interior and at the boundary.

Noncommutative fields in three dimensions and mass generation

open access: yes, 2007
We apply the noncommutative fields method for gauge theory in three dimensions where the Chern-Simons term is generated in the three-dimensional electrodynamics.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Leadership and Behavior in Humanitarian and Development Transnational Non-Governmental Organizations

open access: yesPolitics and Governance, 2016
Does leadership matter in the governance of civil society organizations? In particular, do the CEOs of humanitarian and development NGOs exhibit different leadership styles and perceive their work environments in different ways as the literature suggests.

Deformations of Maxwell Superalgebras and Their Applications

open access: yes, 2010
We describe the Lie algebra deformations of D=4 Maxwell superalgebra that was recently introduced as the symmetry algebra of a kappa-symmetric massless superparticle in a supersymmetric constant electromagnetic background.

Real‐World Performance of CSF Kappa Free Light Chains in the 2024 McDonald Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Kappa free light chains (KFLCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have a similar performance to CSF‐restricted oligoclonal bands (OCB) for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. To help with implementation, we set out to resolve several remaining uncertainties: (1) performance in a real‐world cohort and the 2024 McDonald criteria; (2 ...
