Incidence risks for subtypes of heart diseases in a Russian cohort of Mayak Production Association nuclear workers

Radiation and Environmental Biophysics, 2022
Heart diseases are one of the main causes of death. The incidence risks were assessed for various types of heart diseases (HDs) in a cohort of Russian nuclear workers of the Mayak Production Association (PA) who had been chronically occupationally exposed to external gamma and/ or internal alpha radiation.

Experience and the results of emergency management of the 1957 accident at the Mayak Production Association

Journal of Radiological Protection, 2018
Abstract The experience accumulated while dealing with the aftermath of a major nuclear accident (the ‘Kyshtym Accident’) in 1957 at the Mayak complex in the Southern Urals of Russia is summarised. Information is presented on the causes of the accident, on the radiation environment and radioactive contamination of the affected ...

THE “CLINIC” MEDICAL-DOSIMETRIC DATABASE OF MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION WORKERS: STRUCTURE, CHARACTERISTICS AND PROSPECTS OF UTILIZATION

Health Physics, 2008
To study early (deterministic) and long-term effects of radiation exposure, the "Clinic" medical-dosimetric database for the Mayak Production Association worker cohort has been established at the Southern Urals Biophysics Institute (SUBI). This paper describes the principles of organization, structure and prospects of future utilization of this ...

Some characteristics of plutonium distribution in the atmospheric air and plants in the zone surrounding the Mayak Production Association

Russian Journal of Ecology, 2005
The results of long-term studies on plutonium distribution in the atmospheric air and plants in the area surrounding the Mayak Production Association in the years 1976–1995 are summarized. Data are presented on the changes in plutonium concentration in the air overtime at some points located in the survey zone and the impact zone of the industrial ...

Development of an Improved Dose Reconstruction System for the Techa River Population Affected by the Operation of the Mayak Production Association

Radiation Research, 2006
The Techa River Dosimetry System (TRDS) has been developed to provide estimates of dose received by approximately 30,000 members of the Extended Techa River Cohort (ETRC). Members of the ETRC were exposed beginning in 1949 to significant levels of external and internal (mainly from (90)Sr) dose but at low to moderate dose rates.

DEVELOPMENT OF AN IMPROVED DOSIMETRY SYSTEM FOR THE WORKERS AT THE MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION

Health Physics, 2000
Databases are being created that contain verified and updated dosimetry and worker history information for workers at the Mayak Production Association. Many workers had significant external and internal exposures, particularly during the early years (1948-1952) of operation.

Colloid Transport of Plutonium in the Far-Field of the Mayak Production Association, Russia

Science, 2006
Sorption of actinides, particularly plutonium, onto submicrometer-sized colloids increases their mobility, but these plutonium colloids are difficult to detect in the far-field. We identified actinides on colloids in the groundwater from the Mayak Production Association, Urals, Russia; at the source, the plutonium activity is ∼1000 becquerels per liter.

The structure of leukemia in the personnel employed at the production Association “Mayak” in 1948-1958

Russian Journal of Occupational Health and Industrial Ecology, 2020
The spectrum of leucosis among the workers of the first production facility of Russian atomic industry employed in the period of production development - 1948-1958 is presented. The characteristic of the latent period of malignant neoplasms of hematopoietic tissue and individual accumulated doses of external gamma irradiation of personnel with ...
