THE “CLINIC” MEDICAL-DOSIMETRIC DATABASE OF MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION WORKERS: STRUCTURE, CHARACTERISTICS AND PROSPECTS OF UTILIZATION

Health Physics, 2008
To study early (deterministic) and long-term effects of radiation exposure, the "Clinic" medical-dosimetric database for the Mayak Production Association worker cohort has been established at the Southern Urals Biophysics Institute (SUBI). This paper describes the principles of organization, structure and prospects of future utilization of this ...

Registry for chronic radiation syndrome in a worker cohort of the Russian nuclear enterprise, Mayak Production Association

Journal of Radiological Protection, 2019
Abstract A registry for chronic radiation syndrome (CRS), a deterministic effect of chronic exposure to external and/or internal radiation at doses and dose rates exceeding thresholds for tissue reactions, was established within a medical and dosimetry database known as ‘Clinics’, of the Southern Urals Biophysics Institute at the ...

RECONSTRUCTION OF RADIONUCLIDE CONTAMINATION OF THE TECHA RIVER CAUSED BY LIQUID WASTE DISCHARGE FROM RADIOCHEMICAL PRODUCTION AT THE MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION

Health Physics, 2000
Because of its importance to reconstructing radiation doses for ongoing epidemiological studies, a feasibility study was undertaken to determine if the source term of radioactive materials released to the Techa River from the Mayak Production Association, the first facility in the former Soviet Union for the production of plutonium, could be ...

EXTRAPULMONARY ORGAN DISTRIBUTION OF PLUTONIUM IN HEALTHY WORKERS EXPOSED BY CHRONIC INHALATION AT THE MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION

Health Physics, 2002
The systemic distribution of plutonium was determined for "healthy" workers who chronically inhaled plutonium at the radiochemical plants of the Mayak Production Association. The data were obtained by radiochemical analysis of soft tissues and bones samples collected upon autopsy of 120 workers who died from acute coronary diseases and accidents.

REEVALUATION OF WATERBORNE RELEASES OF RADIOACTIVE MATERIALS FROM THE MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION INTO THE TECHA RIVER IN 1949–1951

Health Physics, 2012
The Mayak Production Association was the first site for the production of weapons-grade plutonium in Russia. Early operations led to the waterborne release of radioactive materials into the small Techa River. Residents living downstream used river water for drinking and other purposes.

Development of an Improved Dose Reconstruction System for the Techa River Population Affected by the Operation of the Mayak Production Association

Radiation Research, 2006
The Techa River Dosimetry System (TRDS) has been developed to provide estimates of dose received by approximately 30,000 members of the Extended Techa River Cohort (ETRC). Members of the ETRC were exposed beginning in 1949 to significant levels of external and internal (mainly from (90)Sr) dose but at low to moderate dose rates.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PLUTONIUM LUNG CLEARANCE MODEL FOR EXPOSURE ESTIMATION OF THE MAYAK PRODUCTION ASSOCIATION, NUCLEAR PLANT WORKERS

Health Physics, 2002
The purpose of this study was to develop a biokinetic model that uses urinary plutonium excretion rate data to estimate the plutonium accumulation in the human respiratory tract after occupational exposure. The model is based on autopsy and urinalysis data, specifically the plutonium distribution between the respiratory tract and the remainder of the ...

Radionuclide Sequential Extraction from Reservoir R-17 Bottom Sediments of the Mayak Production Association

Radiochemistry, 2019
The extraction parameters and speciation of 137Cs and 241Am in bottom sediments of reservoir R-17 of the Mayak Production Assocation were studied. The extraction was performed with four solutions with different pH values (water simulating in its composition the groundwater from the investigated area, 0.1 M Na2CO3, acetate buffer solution, and 1 × 10−3 ...

Sorption of Pu(IV) in the polymeric colloidal form on rock typical of Mayak Production Association area

Radiochemistry, 2009
Sorption of colloids of polymeric Pu from simulated groundwater on a rock typical of Mayak Production Association area was studied. In 20 days, polymeric Pu with the particle size exceeding 220 nm is 99% sorbed by the rock with the distribution coefficient Kd = 1880.

Effect of Inorganic Anions on the Physicochemical State of Radionuclides in Process Freshwater Basins at the Mayak Production Association

Radiochemistry, 2001
Published data on the speciation of microcomponents and radionuclides (calcium, strontium, plutonium, and americium) in the water and bottom sediments of selected process water basins at the Mayak Production Association were discussed in terms of the model of the sorption behavior of a sorbate existing in several forms.
