Limited effects of chronic exposure to field-realistic concentrations of carbamazepine on Deleatidium spp. mayfly nymphs

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Pharmaceuticals are a class of emerging organic contaminants found in freshwaters. Potential chronic effects of many legacy drugs (those developed pre-2006) on freshwater biota were not investigated thoroughly before their market release.

Investigating interactions between macroinvertebrate indices, water quality parameters, and stream quality classifications in a Wisconsin agricultural watershed

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 55, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
Abstract Increasing agricultural and urban land use poses a growing threat to freshwater ecosystems worldwide, contributing to nutrient loading and degradation of surface water quality. Stream restoration, such as riparian vegetation, can help mitigate nonpoint source pollution, yet its ecological outcomes remain variable.

New species of Macunahyphes Dias, Salles & Molineri (Ephemeroptera: Leptohyphidae), with taxonomic notes

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Taxonomy, 2016
Macunahyphes zagaia sp. nov. and M. araca sp. nov. are described based on imagines collected from the Amazon biome in Brazil. Specimens belonging to all species of the genus were examined and a diagnosis for each one is provided.

An improved mayfly algorithm and its application

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2022
An improved version of the mayfly algorithm called the golden annealing crossover-mutation mayfly algorithm (GSASMA) is proposed to address the low convergence efficiency and insufficient search capability of existing mayfly algorithms.

Winter wipeout? Post‐disturbance recovery of brown trout indicates strong population resilience to harsh winter conditions

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2026, Issue 1, January 2026.
Demographic resilience refers to the capacity of a population to resist and recover from disturbances in terms of both population size and structure. Resilience to severe disturbance events, such as heatwaves, floods, and cold snaps, is likely to vary with the life‐history characteristics of the population, such as migratory strategy, and demographic ...

Three New Species of Procloeon (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae) from Thailand

open access: yesAnimal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity, 2015
Three baetid mayflies in the genus Procloeon Bengtsson are described from Thailand: P. narumonae, n. sp. (male and female adults and larva), P. rubeosternum, n. sp. (male and female adults, male and female subimagos, and larva), and P. siamensis, n. sp. (

Life history induces markedly divergent insect responses to habitat loss

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, Volume 95, Issue 1, Page 54-64, January 2026.
This study pioneers the use of deep learning to rapidly assess over 22,000 Amazonian insects, revealing life history‐dependent winners and losers from forest loss. It shows that terrestrial insects decline while aquatic insects thrive, with body size influencing dispersal, offering key insights for biodiversity conservation in tropical fragmented ...

Fishing‐Induced Regulation of Diadromous Fish Subsidies in Stream Communities

open access: yesFreshwater Biology, Volume 71, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Seasonal migrations of diadromous fish transport marine‐derived nutrients into freshwater ecosystems, enriching communities and restructuring food‐web dynamics. By diminishing these migrations, fishing pressure could disrupt cross‐ecosystem connectivity, thereby altering predator–prey interactions and community size structure.

Integrating eDNA and community science to monitor urban Odonata diversity

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 1, Page 84-92, January 2026.
Environmental DNA captured rare and underrepresented taxa often missed by community science observations. Community science revealed adult‐stage observations across a broader temporal window. Integrating both methods improved detection across life stages, seasons, and species prevalence.
