Development of a LINAC head model for the CyberKnife VSI-System using EGSnrc Monte Carlo system. [PDF]
Abstract Introduction In order to understand the interaction processes of photons and electrons of the CyberKnife VSI‐System, a modeling of the LINAC head must take place. Here, a Monte Carlo simulation can help. By comparing the measured data with the simulation data, the agreement can be checked. Materials and methods For the Monte Carlo simulations,

Development of an independent MU calculation software for radiotherapy treatments with stereotactic cones. [PDF]
Abstract Purpose Development of an independent MU calculator (StereoCalc) with and without heterogeneity corrections for stereotactic treatments, in a Varian TrueBeam STx LINAC using stereotactic cones, with flattening filter‐free photon energies. Methods Multiple depth curves and output factors were measured, following the dosimetry formalism for ...

Conditions for Energetic Electrons and Gamma Rays in Thunderstorm Ground Enhancements
Abstract The role of free passage distance (FPD: the distance between the avalanche region and surface detectors) in influencing the relative numbers of energetic electrons and gamma rays in Thunderstorm Ground Enhancements (TGEs) is reconsidered and focuses on the contrast between long (>100 m) versus short (<100 m) FPDs, respectively.

Adapting a practical EPR dosimetry protocol to measure output factors in small fields with alanine
Abstract Purpose Modern radiotherapy techniques often deliver small radiation fields. In this work, a practical Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) dosimetry protocol is adapted and applied to measure output factors (OF) in small fields of a 6 MV radiotherapy system.

Abstract Background The currently available treatment planning systems (TPSs) are neither designed nor intended for accurate dose calculations in nontarget regions. The aim of this work is to quantify the accuracy and reliability of nontarget doses calculated by a commercially available TPS. Methods Nontarget doses calculated by the collapsed cone (CC)

Conditions for Inception of Relativistic Runaway Discharges in Air
Abstract Terrestrial gamma‐ray flashes are linked to growth of long bidirectional lightning leader system consisting of positive and stepping negative leaders. The spatial extent of streamer zones of a typical lightning leader with tip potential exceeding several tens of megavolts is on the order of 10–100 m.

The road toward imaging a black hole: A personal perspective
The article describes the authors personal journey towards developig the Event Horizon Telescope and the first image of a black hole. Left: predcition made by the author and collaborators proposing the black hole imaging in 2000. Right: the two images observed and published by the Event Horizon Telescope in 2019 and 2022.

The intercalation of perovskite quantum dots between perovskites and NiOx hole transport layers is introduced to promote steric arrangements and electronic properties of NiOx nanoparticles. The performances of NiOx‐based n‐i‐p perovskite solar devices are significantly improved, realizing high efficiency (21.59%) and excellent stability (sustaining 85 °

Slip‐Stacked J‐Aggregate Materials for Organic Solar Cells and Photodetectors
J‐ and H‐aggregates constitute archetype functional materials due to unique properties originating from exciton coupling. Here, a broader perspective on the origin of red‐shifted absorption bands including intermolecular charge transfer‐mediated J‐coupling is provided.

Unconventional reconciliation path for quantum mechanics and general relativity
Abstract Physics in general is successfully governed by quantum mechanics at the microscale and principles of relativity at the macroscale. Any attempts to unify them using conventional methods have somewhat remained elusive for nearly a century up to the present stage. Here, a classical gedanken experiment of electron‐wave diffraction of a single slit
