Critical Discourse on the MCDM Methodology and the Meta Decision Problem in MCDM
2001Occasionally, critical remarks have been made in the literature on each of the proposed basic concepts for MCDM methods. In the following, some critical points central to the methodological discussion in MCDM will be recapitulated. Usually, the most widely spread concepts found the greatest attention in these discussions.

Rabobank is a cooperation of approximately 1000 banks with nearly 3000 offices. Top management of the central organisation, Rabobank Nederland, has set a number of goals for the organisation. The goals are stated in terms of totals of balance sheet items that should equal a certain amount.

Stability and sensitivity analysis is both theoretically and practically interesting and important in optimization and decision making. In this chapter we will explain several approaches, though limited, to stability and sensitivity analysis in MCDM.

In the last twenty years hospitals have developed into cost and investment intensive service enterprises confronted with a rising pressure of costs. This applies correspondingly to the diagnostics being of central significance to the service production in hospitals.

Looking in the past one can trace the first origin of MCDM in economical research related to the field of the utility theory [l].That research gave a foundation to the notion of a "rational man" making the best economical decisions. The second origin of MCDM is the field of operation research [2].

Since the concept and the measures of risk are largely spread over different research fields, this paper does not pretend to be a survey of the treatment of risk through the MCDM literature for two reasons. First, we think that existing theories of risk suffer from a lack of generality because uncertainty and risk are too narrowly conceived.

The Application of MCDM Methods
2000In this and the following three chapters, we present a discussion of the sequence of steps involved in applying MCDM methods to a decision problem. Although most of the examples included here are drawn from energy resource selection, these steps are largely independent of the particular application involved, and apply to a wide spectrum of energy ...

On the Combination of MCDM Methods
2001The aggregation of various MCDM methods in an integrative decision support system leads to the idea of providing further possibilities of application besides their interactive, sequential usage from a unified user interface. Referring to the formulation of the meta decision problem proposed in Chapter 2 which asks for a design of an MCDM method ...
