Counterintuitive MCNPX results for scintillator surface roughness effect [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2012
We performed a number of comparative MCNPX simulations of gamma energy depositions of scintillation crystals with smooth and rough surfaces. In the study, nine surface patterns (8 micro-roughness + 1 smooth) were coupled with eight common scintillation crystals for a total of 72 possible combinations.

On the accuracy of Monte Carlo based beam dynamics models for the degrader in proton therapy facilities

open access: yes, 2018
In a cyclotron-based proton therapy facility, the energy changes are performed by means of a degrader of variable thickness. The interaction of the proton beam with the degrader creates energy tails and increases the beam emittance.

Verification of the use of GEANT4 and MCNPX Monte Carlo Codes for Calculations of the Depth-Dose Distributions in Water for the Proton Therapy of Eye Tumours

open access: yesNukleonika, 2014
Verification of calculations of the depth-dose distributions in water, using GEANT4 (version of 4.9.3) and MCNPX (version of 2.7.0) Monte Carlo codes, was performed for the scatterer-phantom system used in the dosimetry measurements in the proton therapy

Current status of MCNP6 as a simulation tool useful for space and accelerator applications

open access: yes, 2012
For the past several years, a major effort has been undertaken at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) to develop the transport code MCNP6, the latest LANL Monte-Carlo transport code representing a merger and improvement of MCNP5 and MCNPX. We emphasize

Air kerma to H-P(3) conversion coefficients for IEC 61267 RQR X-RAY radiation qualities: application to dose monitoring of the lens of the eye in medical diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Recent studies highlight the fact that the new eye lens dose limit can be exceeded in interventional radiology procedures and that eye lens monitoring could be required for these workers.

The study of neutron spectra in water bath from Pb target irradiated by 250MeV/u protons

open access: yes, 2014
The spallation neutrons were produced by the irradiation of Pb with 250 MeV protons. The Pb target was surrounded by water which was used to slow down the emitted neutrons.

Coral‐Like Yolk–Shell‐Structured CoNi@Void@C Microspheres for Enhanced Microwave Absorption, Photothermal, Anti‐Corrosion, and Radiation Shielding Properties

open access: yesRare Metals, Volume 45, Issue 2, February 2026.
ABSTRACT Considering the multiple challenges faced by stealth coatings in complex service environments, the development of multifunctional integrated microwave absorbing materials (MAMs) that combine efficient electromagnetic (EM) attenuation with environmental tolerance has become an urgent need. In this work, coral‐like CoNi@Void@C microparticle (MP)

MCNPX Improvements for Threat Reduction Applications

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2009
Enhancements contained in the current MCNPX 2.6.0 Radiation Safety Information Computational Center (RSICC) release will be presented, including stopped‐muon physics, delayed neutron and photon generation, and automatic generation of source photons. Preliminary benchmarking comparisons with data taken with a muon beam at the Paul Scherrer Institute ...
