The assessment of mealybugs (Pseudococcidae) and other Homoptera on mature cocoa trees in Ghana

AbstractThe numbers of mealybugs and other Homoptera on 96 cocoa trees in Ghana were assessed by examining four branches from each tree. The trees were then felled and examined in detail. Ten species of mealybugs, eight other coccoids, an aphid and a psyllid were recorded.

The susceptibility of cocoa to mealybugs (Pseudococcidae) and other honeydew-producing Homoptera in Ghana

Population densities of mealybugs and other honeydew-producing Homoptera were assessed in six cocoa (Theobroma cacao Linnaeus) trials by inspecting trees from ground to eye level, and also by dissecting samples of terminal buds. A total of 68 cocoa progenies was examined, mainly inter-crosses of six clones.
