Clinical investigation on Theileria equi and Babesia caballi infections in Italian donkeys [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: Interest in the welfare and diseases of donkeys is constantly increasing in several countries. Despite this, clinical research into donkeys needs to be in continual development since they show different reactions compared to horses in many ...

Iron/Cobalt Dual‐Atom Catalyst Orchestrate Photothermal‐Chemodynamic Immunotherapy Against MRSA: Multi‐Omics Dissection in Murine and Porcine Models

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
FeCo dual‐atom catalyst (FeCo‐N‐DAC) with ultrahigh metal loading (Fe > 5.4%, Co > 4.8%) is developed for synergistic photothermal‐chemodynamic immunotherapy. FeCo‐N‐DAC penetrates deep‐seated tissues, eradicates MRSA biofilms, and reprograms immune‐inflammatory pathways via multi‐omics‐validated mechanisms.

Erythrocyte enrichment in hematopoietic progenitor cell cultures based on magnetic susceptibility of the hemoglobin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Using novel media formulations, it has been demonstrated that human placenta and umbilical cord blood-derived CD34+ cells can be expanded and differentiated into erythroid cells with high efficiency.

Could an analysis of mean corpuscular volume help to improve risk stratification in non-anemic patients with acute myocardial infarction?

open access: yesCardiology Journal, 2015
BACKGROUND Nowadays, when the majority of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention and modern pharmacotherapy, risk stratification becomes a challenge.

Effects of Photoperiod on the Haematological Parameters of Clarias Gariepinus Fingerlings Reared in Water Recirculatory System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Haematological analyses has been routinely used in determining the physiological state of animals and known to be affected by different environmental factors, the present study was therefore designed to assess the effect of 24 hours of light (00D: 24L ...

A Tangentially Sensitive Tactile Sensor Reveals the Stick‐Slip Mechanism and Enhances Robotic Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An ultralight, multilayer anisotropic tactile sensor—an artificial Pacinian corpuscle—exhibits ultrahigh tangential sensitivity (1022 kPa−1) and spatiotemporal sensing. It discriminates static, sliding, and rolling contacts, detects incipient stick–slip via high‑frequency signatures, and enhances robotic touch (100%/98.18% accuracy for active/passive ...

Serum 25 hydroxyvitamin D was positively associated with hemoglobin and other anemia parameters in children: a cross-sectional study

open access: yesNutrition & Metabolism
Background Previous in vitro studies indicated that 25 hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] might contribute to the modulation of anemia parameters while epidemiological evidences were scarce in children. We explored the associations of 25(OH)D with hemoglobin (Hb)

Iron deficiency, still a rarity in children with sickle cell anemia in Ile-Ife, Nigeria

open access: yesHematology, Transfusion and Cell Therapy, 2019
In this study, children with sickle cell anemia were evaluated for iron deficiency. Serum ferritin and free erythrocyte protoporphyrin free erythrocyte protoporphyrin (FEP) levels, mean corpuscular volume mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean ...

Mean corpuscular volume of control red blood cells determines the interpretation of eosin-5′-maleimide (EMA) test result in infants aged less than 6 months

open access: yesAnnals of Hematology, 2015
Eosin-5′-maleimide (EMA) binding test is a flow cytometric test used to detect hereditary spherocytosis (HS). To perform the test sample from patients, 5–6 reference samples of red blood are needed.
