The relationship between seed mass and mean time to germination for 1037 tree species across five tropical forests [PDF]
Summary 1. Theoretical models predict that large-seeded species should germinate more rapidly than smallseeded species, since large seeds are more likely to have higher post-dispersal seed predation than small seeds. A prompt germination strategy would therefore enable large seeds to reduce risks of mortality. 2.

Previous work on maize and other crops has indicated that measurements of mean germination time (MGT), the reciprocal of which is the rate of germination, is a possible alternative assessment of vigour to the cold test. Emergence comparisons were made of 11 commercial seed lots from different hybrids from four different production years, over two ...

Mean germination time as an indicator of seed vigour of some maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids and inbredline [PDF]
To determine relationship between mean germination time (MGT) and seed vigour in maize Hybrids and liness an experiment was conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ferdowsi in year 2008. Germination test was carried out utilizing six maize

Can mean germination time predict seed vigor of canola (Brassica napus L.) seed lots?
The aim of this research was to test if mean germination time (MGT) can predict seed vigor in 10 seed lots of canola. There was a significant difference between the final germination percentages of the 10 seed lots tested (‘Hyola 330’, ‘Hyola 401 ...

Summary A wide range of seedling emergence in commercial seed lots of watermelon (10 lots), melon (10 lots) and cucumber (9 lots), all with standard germinations above 98%, was seen in low temperature emergence (LTE), high temperature (HTE) and an 8 cm deep sowing (MSE) in the field and in salt stress conditions (SSE) in trays at 20°C.
