A rapid response radiometer for the estimation of mean radiant temperature in environmental studies

Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1968
A blackened bead 2 mm in diameter is enclosed within a thin spherical polyethylene shell 01 mm thick and 25 mm in diameter. The temperature of the bead is measured by means of an embedded thermistor. An omnidirectional response to thermal radiation is then obtained within ±10%.

Improved methods for estimating mean radiant temperature in hot and sunny outdoor settings

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2021
Thermal comfort research has utilized various sensors and models to estimate the mean radiant temperature (MRT) experienced by a human, including the standard black globe thermometer (SGT), acrylic globe thermometers (AGT), and cylindrical radiation thermometers (CRT). Rather than directly measuring radiation, a temperature is measured in the center of

Mean radiant temperature modeling, A comparative model evaluation

open access: yes, 2018
As a result of the changing climate with trends of rising temperatures and increasing extreme heat events, urban planners and city officials have recently taken a great interest in improving the climate of cities and maintaining comfortable outdoor ...

Validation of the mean radiant temperature simulated by the RayMan software in urban environments

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2016
The RayMan software is worldwide applied in investigations on different issues in human-biometeorology. However, only the simulated mean radiant temperature (T mrt) has been validated so far in a few case studies. They are based on T mrt values, which were experimentally determined in urban environments by use of a globe thermometer or applying the six-

Estimating outdoor mean radiant temperature in a humid subtropical climate

Building and Environment, 2020
Abstract Mean Radiant Temperature (Tmrt) is a decisive parameter in determining outdoor thermal comfort in human biometeorology. The estimation of Tmrt in an outdoor environment is however complex. This study attempts to determine Tmrt by the six directional method and recalibrate the mean convection coefficient of the gray globe for ease of use in ...

Outdoor mean radiant temperature estimation in the tropical urban environment

Building and Environment, 2013
Abstract A large scale estimation of mean radiant temperature (tmrt) is conducted at two sites using customised globe thermometers. The measurement points cover a variety of urban typologies such as high-rise offices, parks, large water bodies and housing apartments. Data is derived using a tmrt formula calibrated to the local climate.

Relationship between Mean Radiant Temperature and Building Type for Pedestrians in Rotterdam

2013
Outdoor thermal comfort for pedestrians becomes important issues in urban planning affecting everyone’s daily lives. Mean Radiant Temperature (T mrt) is one of the most important parameters in micro climate. In this study, we built a computerised model with variable and typical building types.

Improving thermal comfort conditions by accounting for the mean radiant temperature

International Journal of Ambient Energy, 1994
SYNOPSIS The environment in many air conditioned spaces is often determined by the air dry bulb temperature alone. However, in certain circumstances, ignoring the consequences of the mean radiant temperature is not acceptable. A strategy is proposed, therefore, in which the operative temperature, which accounts for radiant effects, is employed as the ...

Temperatura Media Radiante (TMR) Mean Radiant Temperature

2020
