Mean residence time in the body versus mean residence time in the central compartment

Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, 1985
Mean residence time in the body may be determined by noncompartmental methods following any type of input process into the sampled compartment. Mean residence time in the central compartment can be determined following an intravenous bolus dose, as it requires calculation of the concentration at zero time. For any other input process the mean residence

Mean residence time in peripheral tissue

Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, 1987
The published methods for determining the mean residence time for drugs in peripheral tissue are reviewed in terms of assumptions involved, advantages and disadvantages. A method for determining mean transit time in peripheral tissue is proposed; this may be a more useful indicator of the tissue retention properties for drug compounds.

Mean Residence Time and Residence Time Distribution When Sawdust Is Dried in Continuous Dryers

Drying Technology, 2008
Information on the mean residence time and the residence time distribution is of importance when optimizing a continuous dryer. In this study, an industrial method for determining the mean residence time is developed. The produced method is benchmarked on a laboratory scale against the stop-and-empty method.

Danckwerts’ law for mean residence time revisited

Chemical Engineering Science, 2006
This paper shows that Danckwerts’ law for mean residence time in a vessel with continuous and steady through∞ow holds for a stochastic model based on a Markov chain for the particle spatial position, under a set of three very general conditions on the transfer probabilities.

Comments on mean residence time determination

Journal of Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutics, 1985
In a recent paper, D. O. Chanter challenged the applicability of the use of statistical moments in estimating mean residence time and proposed an alternative approach. Errors in that paper are pointed out which involve the improper equating of whole-body amount of drug with plasma amount of drug in a kinetic system.
