Effect of Burn-In on Mean Residual Life

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1985
This paper examines the effect of burn-in on the mean residual life of a product. It is shown that the time at which a bathtub failure-rate is a minimum does not maximize the mean residual life. Contrary to popular belief, the mean residual life in the constant failure-rate region of a bathtub failure-rate curve is not constant.

Bivariate mean residual life

IEEE Transactions on Reliability, 1989
Summary: This paper overviews some of the theoretical results concerning the mean residual life function used in reliability theory. An extension of the concept to the bivariate case is introduced and the relationship between the reliability and mean residual life function is derived.

An Additive–Multiplicative Restricted Mean Residual Life Model

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Statistics, 2015
AbstractThe mean residual life measures the expected remaining life of a subject who has survived up to a particular time. When survival time distribution is highly skewed or heavy tailed, the restricted mean residual life must be considered. In this paper, we propose an additive–multiplicative restricted mean residual life model to study the ...

Conditional mean residual life functions

Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods, 2000
In this paper a conditional mean residual life in the context of reliability theory is introduced. The properties of the conditional mean residual life are studied. Various characterizations by the conditional mean residual life are proposed.

On Mean Residual Life of Discrete Time Multi-State Systems

open access: yesQuality Technology and Quantitative Management, 2013
Eryilmaz, Serkan/0000-0002-2108-1781The mean residual life function is an important characteristic in reliability and survival analysis. Although many papers have studied the mean residual life of binary systems, the study of this characteristic for ...

Mean residual life of coherent systems consisting of multiple types of dependent components

open access: yesNaval Research Logistics, 2018
Mean residual life is a useful dynamic characteristic to study reliability of a system. It has been widely considered in the literature not only for single unit systems but also for coherent systems.

Tests for the mean residual life

Biometrika, 1975
SUMMARY In this paper we develop tests for alternatives representing decreasing mean residual life and the property 'new better than used in expectation'. The decreasing mean residual life test statistic, V*, is new, and critical constants and a large-sample approximation are obtained to make the test readily applicable.

On the Use of Mean Residual Life as a Condition Index for Condition-Based Maintenance Decision-Making

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics: Systems, 2014
International audienceThis paper provides a methodology to analyze the efficiency of mean residual life in condition-based maintenance decision-making. A degradation-threshold-dependent-shock model is used to describe the evolution of a system subject to
