Self‐supportive Three‐Way Photoelectrochemical System Achieving Uranium Recycling, Organic Oxidation, and Electricity Generation in Complex Waters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A self‐sustaining solar photoelectrochemical cell (SS‐PEC) is developed to recover uranium from aqueous UO22+ with concurrent organic oxidation and electricity production. The monolithical photoanode directly captures electrons from organic compounds, leading to the oxidation of organic compounds and the decomposition of uranium‐organic complexes ...

Comparison of Ground- and Space-based Longitudinal Magnetograms

open access: yes, 2012
We compare photospheric line-of-sight magnetograms from the Synoptic Long-term Investigations of the Sun (SOLIS) vector spectromagnetograph (VSM) instrument with observations from the 150-foot Solar Tower at Mt.

Engineering Porous Hollow Metal‐Poly(Heptazine Imide) Spheres: An Optimized Synthetic Strategy for Controlling Surface, Morphology, and Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hollow poly(heptazine imide) spheres are prepared through a novel approach that integrates hard templating with ionothermal synthesis. This method enables precise control over surface area, pore volume, hydrophilicity, light absorption, band position, and metal composition. These tunable properties facilitate the customized design of semiconductors for

Time profile of solar energetic particles fit using a mean free path considering the radial dependence of both magnetic field strength and fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2014
The radially dependent mean free path of solar energetic particles was calculated by considering the radially dependent magnetic field fluctuation, its correlation length and the variation of magnetic field strength along an Archimedean interplanetary magnetic field. A longer mean free path can be deduced as radial distance approaches the sun. That is,

Enhancing Direct Solar Water Splitting via ALD of Multifunctional TiO2/Pt Nanoparticle Coatings With Engineered Interfaces to GaAs/GaInP Tandem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Multifunctional atomic layer deposited coatings and interface treatments enhance direct solar water splitting on GaAs/GaInP tandem cells. Optimized TiO2/Pt nanoparticle bilayers ensure durability and catalytic efficiency with minimal optical losses, while H2 plasma pretreatments maximize photovoltage and interfacial charge extraction.

Chaotic response of global climate to long-term solar forcing variability

open access: yes, 2009
It is shown that global climate exhibits chaotic response to solar forcing variability in a vast range of timescales: from annual to multi-millennium. Unlike linear systems, where periodic forcing leads to periodic response, nonlinear chaotic response to

GONG p-mode parameters through two solar cycles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We investigate the parameters of global solar p-mode oscillations, namely damping width $\Gamma$, amplitude $A$, mean squared velocity $\langle v^2\rangle$, energy $E$, and energy supply rate $\mathrm{d}E/\mathrm{d} t$, derived from two solar cycles ...

Controlled Aggregation of Pyrene‐Based Supramolecular Nanostructures for Light‐Driven Switchable H2 or H2O2 Production

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work reports the self‐assembly of a pyrene derivative into two distinct nanostructures and their application in visible‐light photocatalysis. The two nanostructures exhibit completely different yet complementary photocatalytic activities, promoting either H2 or H2O2 evolution.

Kinetic Insights into Precursor‐Assisted Soft Sphere Close Packing Revealed by In Situ GISAXS with Implications for Gas Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The versatile precursor‐assisted soft sphere close packing during slot‐die coating is investigated with in situ X‐ray scattering. The soft crystallization pathways towards a close packing involve multistep structural transitions such as surface nucleation, in‐plane, and out‐of‐plane crystallization.
