Adjusted variance estimators based on minimizing mean squared error for stratified random samples
In the realm of survey data analysis, encountering substantial variance relative to bias is a common occurrence. In this study, we present an innovative strategy to tackle this issue by introducing slightly biased variance estimators. These estimators incorporate a constant c within the range of 0 to 1, which is determined through the minimization of ...

Simultaneous Selection of Optimal Bandwidths for the Sharp Regression Discontinuity Estimator [PDF]
経済学 / EconomicsWe consider the problem of the bandwidth selection for the sharp regression discontinuity (RD) estimator. The sharp RD estimator requires to estimate two conditional mean functions on the left and the right of the cut-off point ...

Implicit particle methods and their connection with variational data assimilation
The implicit particle filter is a sequential Monte Carlo method for data assimilation that guides the particles to the high-probability regions via a sequence of steps that includes minimizations.

Exciton Binding Energy Modulation in 2D Perovskites: A Phenomenological Keldysh Framework
The intrinsic screening effects are successfully decoupled from structural distortion by rigorously designing a series of 2D perovskites. This enabled us to demonstrate how the dielectric environment modulates the quasiparticle bandgap and exciton binding energy.

Matrix Completion from Fewer Entries: Spectral Detectability and Rank Estimation
The completion of low rank matrices from few entries is a task with many practical applications. We consider here two aspects of this problem: detectability, i.e.

A vertically stacked, DEA‐driven photonic array inspired by cephalopod skin, featuring highly crystalline colloidal crystal gels with vivid color, low FWHM and scalability is presented. The multilayer design removes lateral pixel interference, achieving near‐100% fill factor with fully independent RGB actuation.

On a gap between rational annuitization price for producer and price for customer
The paper studies pricing of insurance products focusing on the pricing of annuities under uncertainty. This pricing problem is crucial for financial decision making and was studied intensively, however, many open questions still remain.

Optimum Statistical Estimation with Strategic Data Sources [PDF]
We propose an optimum mechanism for providing monetary incentives to the data sources of a statistical estimator such as linear regression, so that high quality data is provided at low cost, in the sense that the sum of payments and estimation error is ...
